The router works fine but both WiFi frequency connections are under-performing.

Sitting a front of router:

The most I ever got over WiFi was about 2-3 MB/S according to my observations of Windows File Explorer when copying larger files, on both frequencies.

Connecting via WiFi only to speedtest.net gives me 15 Mbps max on my brand new phone.

I tried several apps for the phone for WiFi test only to get 10-11 mbps. Also tried Mobile Data Test with same apps = around 60 Mbps.

Connecting via WiFi only to speedtest.net gives me 15 Mbps max on my brand new laptop.
Connecting via LAN only to speedtest.net gives me 290 Mbps max on my laptop.

I tried tinkering with router settings a bit a while back but did not have time to fully grasp it.

So,

The back of the router Displays -
Quote:
Model: Archer C7(US) Ver.3.0

When I go to status page in DD-WRT Web GUI it displays:
Quote:
Router Model: TP-Link ARCHER-C7 v2
Firmware Version: DD-WRT v3.0-r40559 std (08/06/19)
Kernel Version: Linux 3.18.140 #49336 Tue Aug 6 03:18:43 +04 2019 mips

But Top Right Corner of Web GUI also claims Ver.3
Quote:
Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r40559 std (08/06/19)

I found a new version to download Archer_C7_V3_150508_US dated 2020-11-03 - newest version for Ver.3.0. Also found for V.2.x dated 2020-11-03 from Downloads page here.

Also downloaded original firmware from TP-Link website.
---------------------------------------------------------

I would like to upgrade Firmware and/or revert back to TP-Link Stock and then load latest V.3 of DD-WRTand see if my WiFi issues will be solved.

Which route should I go?

Thanks.

You can *try* webupgrade or cli flashing:

11-03-2020-r44715/tplink_archer-c7-v3/tplink_archer-c7-v3.bin

And see if it corrects the detection issue. Otherwise, you will have to revert to stock and start over with:

11-03-2020-r44715/tplink_archer-c7-v3/factory-to-ddwrt.bin

Both are the "latest" listed in the router database. How you zeroed in on 40559, I have *no* idea. It is a known problematic build.

Also, keep in mind that the forum is probably the most useful source of information regarding releases. Check the release threads. For example, this is the most current at the time of my post:

No, I did no such thingy!

I found, after sweating a bit, that it is what it is. Apparently, V2 and V3 are pretty much the same.

Anyway, been a loooooong weeeeek running on latest stack and it looks OK so far.

Downgraded to LATEST TP-LINK firware, flashed it up to latest version of DD-WRT, Peachy!

Now all is left is to paint it and throw it away, like someone wise once said.

Still not a SuperHuman setup, System(z) show no more than 300 MBs/s, but Oy, will do for now.
