I’ve tried nearly every build since 44048 on my 3200ACM. Every build seems to have WiFi stability issues with my iOS 13 and iOS 14 devices (iPhones and iPads). Some builds seem better than others, but none have the rock-solid stability of 44048.

I’ve scoured all forums and topics trying to understand the reason and possible cures, but all seem to come down to advice similar to “the drivers are junk”. So why is 44048 so good and anything later not? Did a binary driver change in a way the maintainers can’t see?

I still hold out hope that one day I can move away from 44048 permanently. It’s kinda fun trying later builds, but it’s getting harder and harder each time as configurations and features diverge. Fortunately, I use very little of what has been changing lately. I just stick to basic WiFi (2.4 and 5Ghz) and dhcp.

thanks for your answer, so if I put the 44048 version it works perfectly?

You appear to be using far more features that I do so that’s hard to say. WiFi stability wise between iOS devices and your WRT3200ACM’s would be better I would expect. There’s been over a thousand commits since 44048, with many appearing to be vpn related. So how well 44048 works for your situation I couldn’t speculate on.

I have already used the 44048 and had no problems with the vpn but I did not have an iPhone, with Android it worked very well

I'm stuck at 44048 as well. Every build I've tried since then has had iphone and macbook wifi problems. Wifi remains connected and strong, but IP traffic simply stops until you recycle wifi on the apple device.

This problem occurred between 44048 and 44213. Maybe even prior to 44213 but I didn't test those in-between builds. I upgraded from 44048 to 44213, noticed the problem and went back to 44048.

Linksys WRT3200ACM: gateway mode, DNSMasq for DNS and DHCP, Wireguard client (Mullvad), Firewall enabled, QoS enabled HTB-CAKE, PBR enabled (SFE disabled). WIFI: 2.4ghz: NG-mixed, 20mhz channel width, channel 1, WPA2-CCMP-128. 5ghz: AC/N mixed, 80mhz channel width, channel 100+upper, WPA2-CCMP-128.

Linksys WRT1900ACSv1: router mode, hardwired ethernet lan to WRT3200ACM above. WIFI: 2.4ghz: NG-mixed, 20mhz channel width, channel 11, WPA2-CCMP-128. 5ghz: AC/N mixed, 80mhz channel width, channel 36+upper, WPA2-CCMP-128.

Clients: Apple MACOS x 4, IOS x 4, Apple TV, Chromecast Audio x 2, Eufy doorbells, Lutron Caseta, Axis Camera, Samsung TV, Nest thermostat, EtekCity outlets (Espressif)..

This is interesting...

https://svn.dd-wrt.com/changeset?sfp_email=&sfph_mail=&reponame=&new=44176%40src&old=44175%40src&sfp_email=&sfph_mail=

Are intermediate builds available to see if these driver changes might be the culprit?

Thanks to everyone, I installed the 44048 firmware and actually the problem no longer exists! you should understand which are the later versions that do not present the problem

Here's a link to all the versions from 2020:

https://dd-wrt.com/support/other-downloads/?path=betas%2F2020%2F

If your theory is correct that 44175 introduced the problem, then apple devices should work with 44112 and be broken with 44187.

Trying 44112 now. It might take a day or so to know for sure if my iOS devices are still happy and content.

Great thank you! Running a few speedtests usually triggers it within 30 minutes.

No kidding. Three 5GHz speed tests (At about 500Mbps average...) from my iPad and whammo! No more data flow on all iOS devices (iPad and two iPhones all on the 5Ghz side).

Nothing in the syslogs either. Just the iPad requesting DHCP once it started to get data again (About 10 minute delay). I didn't reset or rejoin the 5GHz network, it just came back after a bit of a wait.

So, this makes me think the breaking change was prior to 44112 but still after 44048. Only 44085 exists for download, so I'll try that.

10 speed tests later and 44085 is still working fine with my iOS devices. So, my theory is somewhere between 44085 and 44112. There doesn’t look like there are any binary driver changes, but this commit contains changes to many driver interactions. What they’re for and why they’re changed, I couldn’t even begin to guess. But maybe this could help clue in one of the devs ‘in the know’:

can someone try the newest release, 45229 and then peak at my signature for best wifi settings and try to follow all the suggested RTS/CTS, airtime fairness, SU-mimo and MU-mimo settings and report back if anything is stable?

just wondering if RTS/CTS settings will help...
Also, try beacon interval at 300 and DTIM of 1 for both radios.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that beacon interval really matters on the marvell radios...

before you make the jump backup your specific build settings because you will need to reset when reverting back because nvram mappings will be different between these builds for sure.

Thanks for trying for me...I am not committed enough to buy a used marvell router given all the stories I read here to justify the super expensive costs still on the used market.
