I have a Netgear R7000 running the latest factory firmware. I used a wifi app to check the signal strength and speed. I installed dd-wrt firmware and ran the same test under the same conditions. I made no tweaks to dd-wrt. I found that the signal was weaker and the speed was slower using dd-wrt. Is this the expected result after installing dd-wrt? Would tweaking dd-wrt bring the performance up the the factory firmware?

Set up wireless basic settings, then correct TX power according to regulatory domain and channel selection.

Check that SFE (Shortcut Forwarding Engine) under Setup --> Basic Setup --> WAN is enabled.
