Samba "hides" the drive format by standardizing the access protocol. Unless you need to directly connect the USB drive to Windows, an ext4 format will work just fine using dd-wrt based NAS.

Sure, ext4 works just fine if your write access is just for Linux devices.
Unfortunately, there's not built in write support (ext4) by Apple, Microsoft, etc. So, you can't write to NAS using these platforms. |
