I was on Kong's last build, so I figured I'd update to the latest BS build just for the sake of updating, but after doing so, my wireless speeds went from ~470Mbps, down to 80-100Mbps, regardless of Channel/Width settings.

I've attached a few images of my current settings. Please let me know if you need more info.

Thanks!

I am not a wifi guru ( there are those on the forum who are and I am sure they will chime in) so just a quick thing to try:
Set Wireless Network mode to AC/N

See: https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Basic_Wireless_Settings

I have used both Broadcom and Atheros routers on Kong and BS builds and speed is comparable so it must be something in the settings (I think Smile )

Thanks for the help, egc. Unfortunately, changing that setting had zero effect on speed. This router is connected to a XB6 gateway, however the gateway is unable to (reliably) provide these speeds, which is why I'm using the R7000P. I'm not sure what's going on, because if you look at the "Rate" in the first screenshot, it's showing 780Mbps. Confused

itwontbewe,

I've now matched those settings in your screenshots, but alas, this has not fixed my issue.

blkt,

Yes, that is the build I'm using and have followed the relevant steps to unlock 5GHz channels, and the speeds remain ~80Mbps for all channels.

EDIT: On second look, my "Rate" now seems to fluctuate between 100 Mbit/s and 173 Mbit/s.

I also have Entware installed, so perhaps something in there may help with diagnosis? Just a thought! Smile

Also, the linked Advanced settings wiki from that one.

maybe a bad ethernet cable connected to it or ahead of the router?

Well, I've done some more troubleshooting, such as factory reset (via the GUI), messing with extension channels, etc. and I am simply at a brick wall.

What's interesting is that, before I updated, my speeds were phenomenal. To my knowledge, I never really messed with anything other than setting up SSIDs and enabling USB support for Entware. Again, that was using Kong's final release. I am really trying to avoid reverting back to Netgear's firmware and starting fresh... Only as a last resort. Mad

kernel-panic69,

What gets me is that, I never messed with any of those settings before to get the speeds I had.

itwontbewe,

This was my initial thought, however 3 brand new cables are giving the same results.

Thanks for all the help so far!

If wanting to try an older build, but not too far back, then 11/03/2020 - r44715 or anything from October.

I downgraded to the build you suggested, but I'm still experiencing the same issue. Also, not sure if related, but under "System -> Sys-Info", I'm seeing lots of packet errors. More so on TX than RX.

Just went ahead and downgraded once more to Kong's latest build (39960), and I am STILL getting these crap speeds.

Question: Could it be my gateway (Xfinity XB6) suddenly refusing to provide the speeds to the router? If so, I would be surprised, since I've made no changes to the gateway. Unless Xfinity themselves did something...

I think I've just about got it. Keep in mind I'm still on 39960.

I noticed when logging into the gateway that LAN speed was capped at 100Mbps. Resetting the gateway bumped it back up to 1000Mbps.

Although the above revelation didn't fix my issue, what (sort of) did was changing "Wireless Network Mode" to "AC/N-Mixed", Channel 149, VHT80, LL.

HOWEVER, instead of getting slow speeds mentioned in the OP, I'm now getting ~350Mbps, whereas I SHOULD be getting about 470Mbps?

I may just stay on this build indefinitely...
