i have found a solution (all be it not a viable one but still a decent solution)
I own an iPhone 11 Pro 512GB, was working perfectly fine up until 13.7, then IDIOT me decided to try the new iOS v14 (biggest mistake of my life).
Anyhow, long story short, i ended up buying a used iPhone 7 128GB which had iOS 13.7, so i just use that now for tethering.
iPhone 11 Pro does nothing for now...
A couple of people in the apple forum said they were able to tether their iPhones to their routers wirelessly (albeit not reliably). Can someone share how this is done? I’d rather have an unreliable connection for my family, than no connection at all.
this is what I’m asking about. can i tether to the router wirelessly? or is this simply suggesting using the wifi hotspot of the phone itself (less range)?
apologies in advance if my questions are stupid, I’m a non technical person trying to make the best of this i can.
Wirelessly, it works, as I also have tested it but, it's a bit unreliable, especially because iPhone's WiFi tethering is 2.4 GHz only. I have yet to figure out why Apple has not made 5 GHz an option for hotspot. In crowded areas, iPhone's WiFi tethering doesn't work at all.
fyi, I’ve just been made aware of a parallel thread in apple communities. It seems the overwhelming consensus is that the firmware/router dev’s will have to figure this out.
When I reminded a support person at apple that they neglected to deliver release notes so that dev’s know where to look, I wad given silence - “ i can assure you that nothing nefarious is at play here”

The reason is because of all the varying requirements around 5ghz wifi and how each country handles it...to say the least, it's a mess and requires huge tables of data to be constantly updated and maintained, and is not yet mature enough.
So what most manufacturers do is eliminate the ability to even have 5ghz wifi as a hotspot because "it's too hard to implement."
Many android devices, too, lack the ability to hotspot on 5ghz for this very reason... so until the developers of iOS choose not to be "lazy"...you're stuck. _________________ FORUM RULES

Louis Rossmann could be a dude, and sounds like, but he is also a magician and know's very well how to work with facts and twist the reality...yep MAC's full of hardware issues, we know that, that's y i've never got their stupid laptops, been repaired few of them for a friends, they are made of cheap materials, with not much long-lasting idea, almost like Tesla cars...
Iphones form the other side, are made to be fk robust, apart of that Iphone 6. I repaired many many of old Iphones, and all easy to work with...personally i have 4, 4s, 5, 5s, 6s, 6s+ and non of them had any issues, with anything he mentioned...also yep Pears have an funny/nasty strategy, nothing new to the world...customer service crap and after market repair, only Iphone services..well im not a Pears technician and i repaired many of tham, that catch with non compatible parts its easy to sort, as there is another talk how to, ggl it, you basically edit IOS system to ignore the parts that are not genuine and after reboot boom it works ok, i have it step by step, but its not a place to discuss and its my little magic, so im not sharing it....
From the other side Androids, hardware not far from Iphones also designed to break too, even harder to repair...replace...on some models...also consider multiple security flaws, bad updates strategy, many apps with malware, easy to crack/hack than Iphones, im not defending Pears, but im not about to heave Andrew's in my live, even im my next one, until i know they are not that security vulnerable.., not going into details too...
SO, if something wrong with DDWRT Routers and Iphones or Andrew's bad connectivity, revise router settings, try to change them and make it work, i have no troubles with both on any of my routers, so far.. _________________ Atheros
