I corrected the synology link in previous post, copy paste error.

Otherwise, the only movement I'm seeing is at libimobiledevice.

i have found a solution (all be it not a viable one but still a decent solution)

I own an iPhone 11 Pro 512GB, was working perfectly fine up until 13.7, then IDIOT me decided to try the new iOS v14 (biggest mistake of my life).

Anyhow, long story short, i ended up buying a used iPhone 7 128GB which had iOS 13.7, so i just use that now for tethering.
iPhone 11 Pro does nothing for now...

A couple of people in the apple forum said they were able to tether their iPhones to their routers wirelessly (albeit not reliably). Can someone share how this is done? I’d rather have an unreliable connection for my family, than no connection at all.

Only known workaround, aside from jailbreak and/or downgrading, is to tether directly to a known working OS, bridge to Ethernet LAN port, then run an Ethernet cable from your computer to the WAN port on the router...or ditch USB for WiFi... https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1219802#1219794

USB to PC/MAC Ethernet bridge is a better option than WiFi, but you have to keep that computer on and awake.

this is what I’m asking about. can i tether to the router wirelessly? or is this simply suggesting using the wifi hotspot of the phone itself (less range)?

apologies in advance if my questions are stupid, I’m a non technical person trying to make the best of this i can.

WiFi tethering is more complicated to configure, and you won't like the results.

I'm trying to steer you towards a straightforward solution, if you have a PC/MAC in between the iPhone and WAN port.

Please see that first link; a Mac user explains how and someone below his post reported successful bridge in Windows.

Wirelessly, it works, as I also have tested it but, it's a bit unreliable, especially because iPhone's WiFi tethering is 2.4 GHz only. I have yet to figure out why Apple has not made 5 GHz an option for hotspot. In crowded areas, iPhone's WiFi tethering doesn't work at all.

fyi, I’ve just been made aware of a parallel thread in apple communities. It seems the overwhelming consensus is that the firmware/router dev’s will have to figure this out.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251829006?answerId=253785140022#253785140022

When I reminded a support person at apple that they neglected to deliver release notes so that dev’s know where to look, I wad given silence - “ i can assure you that nothing nefarious is at play here”

The reason is because of all the varying requirements around 5ghz wifi and how each country handles it...to say the least, it's a mess and requires huge tables of data to be constantly updated and maintained, and is not yet mature enough.

So what most manufacturers do is eliminate the ability to even have 5ghz wifi as a hotspot because "it's too hard to implement."

Many android devices, too, lack the ability to hotspot on 5ghz for this very reason... so until the developers of iOS choose not to be "lazy"...you're stuck.

I did that many years ago and have no regrets...
Their last "good year" was 2013, after that they went downhill....

See BS's signature with the Louis Rossmann you tube link...
it's full of reasons why to never buy Apple... too many sheeple, though....

though a lot of the android hardware makers are no better either....

Louis Rossmann could be a dude, and sounds like, but he is also a magician and know's very well how to work with facts and twist the reality...yep MAC's full of hardware issues, we know that, that's y i've never got their stupid laptops, been repaired few of them for a friends, they are made of cheap materials, with not much long-lasting idea, almost like Tesla cars...
Iphones form the other side, are made to be fk robust, apart of that Iphone 6. I repaired many many of old Iphones, and all easy to work with...personally i have 4, 4s, 5, 5s, 6s, 6s+ and non of them had any issues, with anything he mentioned...also yep Pears have an funny/nasty strategy, nothing new to the world...customer service crap and after market repair, only Iphone services..well im not a Pears technician and i repaired many of tham, that catch with non compatible parts its easy to sort, as there is another talk how to, ggl it, you basically edit IOS system to ignore the parts that are not genuine and after reboot boom it works ok, i have it step by step, but its not a place to discuss Razz and its my little magic, so im not sharing it.... Embarassed Twisted Evil
From the other side Androids, hardware not far from Iphones also designed to break too, even harder to repair...replace...on some models...also consider multiple security flaws, bad updates strategy, many apps with malware, easy to crack/hack than Iphones, im not defending Pears, but im not about to heave Andrew's in my live, even im my next one, until i know they are not that security vulnerable.., not going into details too...
SO, if something wrong with DDWRT Routers and Iphones or Andrew's bad connectivity, revise router settings, try to change them and make it work, i have no troubles with both on any of my routers, so far..

Amazing how Apple handled this: the typical admission followed by denial, then not a priority, then won't fix.

https://www.laszlopusztai.net/2020/09/16/ios-14-breaks-usb-tethering/ (first duckduckgo result I pasted).

"Update (November 6): The just-released iOS 14.2 fixes the bug." Test iOS 14.2, should work please verify.

I am curious how Synology managed a workaround; apparently they did say it was Apple's problem to fix.

Edit: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251841768?answerId=253815146022#253815146022 Meh.
