I'm new to dd-wrt (3 weeks ago). I happily read lots of guidelines and successfully flashed TP-Link WDR4300 and now D-Link DIR-868L. Remarkably fuss free, impressive software and helpful documentation, thank you. One glitch, for the DIR-868L the 5GHz band did not appear in the UI, instead there were 2 x 2.4GHz devices. I disabled the second device as it was invisible to clients (Windows and Android). I searched forum re D-Link for a while but didn't see anything obviously relevant. "Wireless" screenshot attached.
Hardware D-Link DIR-868L hardware version A1
DD-WRT v3.0 r44112 std 9 Aug 20
Regional (time) setting: Sydney Australia

Thanks guys. Tried the setting to nvram first, didn't work. 'nvram show' before and after reboot showed the setting had been stored successfully. Then tried resetting to factory defaults from Web UI, didn't work. Seems to have same effect as the reset button in the base of the unit which I had tried before posting. Yes, the Wireless screen shows wl1 as 2.4GHz not 5GHz as in your screen IONK. I'm wondering if it is a regional setting? - have attached a shot of the last page of the D-Link user manual. However the 5GHz radio was definitely on pre-flashing i.e. with the D-Link firmware. Any more suggestions welcome

ok, thanks kernel-panic69. However, I'm not sure where to change such settings. I did (in desperation) try a US time zone, which of course made no difference. My TP-Link WDR4300 has a check box for 'Advanced Settings' on the Wireless page (which reveals a Regulatory Region setting), this doesn't appear on the DIR-868L. The 'Wireless > Advanced' page doesn't have a Regional setting option. Any suggestions? Thanks ...

As you mentioned, 5GHz was available on D-Link firmware before flashing ddwrt, so I think your DIR-868L hardware supports 5GHz (and not disabled/unimplemented by D-Link).
FYI, my 868L was given by a Singapore ISP when signing up the internet plan, and originally it was loaded with a slightly customized D-Link firmware. After loading ddwrt, 5GHz is working normally.
The screenshot in my previous post didn't show the channel because I set it as Repeater Bridge, but if set as AP 20MHz then the following channels are available:
36 - 5.180 GHz
40 - 5.200 GHz
44 - 5.220 GHz
48 - 5.240 GHz
52 - 5.260 GHz
56 - 5.280 GHz
60 - 5.300 GHz
64 - 5.320 GHz
100 - 5.500 GHz
104 - 5.520 GHz
108 - 5.540 GHz
112 - 5.560 GHz
116 - 5.580 GHz
132 - 5.660 GHz
136 - 5.680 GHz
140 - 5.700 GHz
144 - 5.720 GHz
149 - 5.745 GHz
153 - 5.765 GHz
157 - 5.785 GHz
161 - 5.805 GHz
165 - 5.825 GHz
I think all these channels are allowed in Australia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels

Thanks IONK. Yes I'm happy the 5G hardware is there. It's just that I have no idea how to enable it under DD-WRT. I don't even know what regional setting it thinks it is, it may not be Australia. The only location setting I can see is TZ (and it would be very unlikely for that to be relevant) ..

looks like the nvram got screwed up. the capabilities of the wifi chipset are defined by the factory nvram data _________________ "So you tried to use the computer and it started smoking? Sounds like a Mac to me.." - Louis Rossmann https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eL_5YDRWqGE&t=60s
Ok, thanks for your contributions everyone. I did this 1) downloaded the latest firmware (2016) from D-Link site (Australia region) and installed 2) confirmed 5GHz was working fine (only tried client to router) see attached screenshot 3) did full new installation of r44048. No difference. The checkbox for Advanced settings does not appear on the Wireless page. wl1 is still 2.4GHz not 5GHz and doesn't appear to clients. All same as per the screenshot in my initial post. No "Regulatory Region" setting available in Wireless or "Wireless > wl0/wl1 Advanced". Any thoughts?
this case may not be the same as the issue reported in the wiki, because the issue mentioned in the wiki is about network does not show up but 5GHz settings are still available in the control panel page.
also, it's strange that i don't have any issue on my DIR-868L RevA1 since the first day I loaded ddwrt onto it.
is it possible that D-Link made some minor changes in the hardware for different batches, but didn't change the hardware revision number? my one is from 2015 or so.
Just in case I can inspire someone to a creative thought! 1) in nvram changing nocountrysel=1 to 0 let me see regulatory environment again. However changing this did not help (was US, tried SNG and AU). So region not obviously an issue 2) noticed that radio settings in nvram differed from the wiki so tried changing. That didn't work because even after 'nvram commit' the settings reverted on reboot. Attached pic tells the story. Suggestions welcome! Would be interesting to know what your settings for _radioids are, IONK. Cheers
