[edit: 07.March 2021]:
Router Model: Ubiquiti NanoStation M5
Firmware Version: DD-WRT v3.0-r45863 std (02/28/21)
Kernel Version: Linux 3.18.140-d5 #108144 Sun Feb 28 02:03:01 +07 2021 mips

Hello,

I would need you help in configuring my dd-wrt in such a way that the current connection stay's stable with the AP.

Application:
I would like to connect with the router to an eduroam network close by.
Therefore I set-up the 5Ghz network in the attached Wireless Client mode

Issue:
The router connects & gets a connection for a short periode - but after a few seconds (below 3 min) the connection is lossed & a re-connection will be performed.

I tried several thing to build up the connection in a stable way - but I struggle.

Therefore I uploaded the screenshots of Wireless Mode-Client configuration incl. the advanced settings & also the information of the AP situation.

The wireless security page is also attached where I hidded my personal information.

Can someone support & help me to get a stable connection ?

It helps if you state router model and build number

To get the best out of DDWRT and the forum read the forum guidelines with helpful pointers:

Your wireless settings do not seem optimal.

Consult the Wiki.

Try to use AC/N instead of mixed, and use 20 MHz channel width.

When you figure out why you're getting disconnected, the solution will be easy. Cool

Sorry to miss some information in the inital post:

Router Model: Ubiquiti NanoStation M5
Firmware Version: DD-WRT v3.0-r45863 std (02/28/21)
Kernel Version: Linux 3.18.140-d5 #108144 Sun Feb 28 02:03:01 +07 2021 mips

Problem:
I think I do not meet the right configuration for the 5Ghz "client mode".

I adjusted the following values in the "wireless settings":
Changed Wireless Mode to : N-Only
Channel width to : 20Mhz

But as I'm not an expert in the the "wifi advanced settings", I'm still struggling with the settings.
Tried to "play" with the following values:
- Threshold - increased to 1250
- Beacon Interval - increased to 577
- DTIM Interval - increased to 2
- Sensitivity Range (ACK Timing) - set to 0

When I'm connected I achieve the following values:
Signal : -56
Noise : -95
SNR : 40

In the syslog I receive not a lot of information, which I can use for further analysis:
Quote:

Mar 7 13:02:28 DD-WRT kern.info kernel: [144767.340000] wlan0: send auth to xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:5f (try 1/3)
Mar 7 13:02:28 DD-WRT kern.info kernel: [144767.340000] wlan0: authenticated
Mar 7 13:02:28 DD-WRT kern.info kernel: [144767.360000] wlan0: associate with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:5f (try 1/3)
Mar 7 13:02:28 DD-WRT kern.info kernel: [144767.360000] wlan0: RX AssocResp from xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:5f (capab=0x1101 status=0 aid=1)
Mar 7 13:02:28 DD-WRT kern.info kernel: [144767.370000] wlan0: associated
Mar 7 13:07:56 DD-WRT kern.info kernel: [145095.550000] wlan0: authenticate with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:9f

There is no information about connection drop etc. so it just searches by its "own" for a new AP. Why?

Thanks for your support!

Unfortunately I do not achieve a stable connection & cannot really find out why the connection drops.

Based on the Spanish Exchange I have the feeling that maybe there is an issue with the Client Mode + some frequencies (even if the hardware in there is a nanostation m5 xw)

https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=324192&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=nanostation&start=15

Additionally there is something I do not understand:
Status > WAN - provides me the information of a connection uptime >5h again:
Status > Wireless - where I see that I'm roughly connected over a view minutes.

How does this fit together?

Is there any possibility to get further logs than just these I posted on the 10th of march via Syslogs ?

Guess there must be a reason, why the router starts searching for a new access-point?

It seems to work now quite stable:

Main changes I did:

    1) Changed build to a older version - currently running build:

    Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r42872 std (04/10/20)

Main difference (I can see - the wireless adapter is still called ath instead of wlan.

    2) Not sure if that was the only thing, I also reduced the ACK time to 50 that there is no possibility to see other AP with the same naming.

Would love to try the newer build if it would also work with it - but I will keep it for the moment with the sentense "never change a running system".
