I just finished flashing my WRT54GS v6 to DD-WRT. Kudos to the folks who wrote those very concise instructions in the wiki. I followed them to the letter and didn't have any trouble whatsoever.
On the status screen, my version string is displayed as:
v24-sp2 (07/22/09) micro-build 12548M NEWD Eko
Given the 2009 date on this version, I was wondering if there is a more recent build that might be recommended for this device, and if so, where would I download it from. In the router database, there is a file called dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin with a date of 10-10-2009. Is that the most recent version available for my router, and if so, can I simply use the DD-WRT firmware update function to flash it? _________________ --==--

Looking at that list, my guess is that I can only use something with "micro" in the name and further, that I should steer clear of anything that has a specific model number for some other router in the name. That leaves me with "dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin" with a date of 02-24-2015. Do I just use the web interface to flash this then do a 30/30/30 reset, or is there something different I need to do to apply this properly?
Lastly, is there a change log somewhere that would list what is new with each release?
EDIT: Never mind, I found the changelog thread. _________________ --==--

Yes, only use the micro build; it isn't clear in the wiki, but there are many forums posts about it (would -really- help if the search function did 'Titles only'). I tried the 'micro special' build on my GSv6 actually, but didn't work. I've only TFTP'd firmware to it, but mrjcd says his v5 and v7 flash through the GUI just fine. I'm pretty sure I've not had success with it, but will retest next time I'm around it. I ran build 14929 on it for years as a client bridge, until I put 'DD-WRT v3.0-r27360 (06/18/15) micro' on it to use as a normal gateway AP.

I've never used the 30-30-30 as it always seems to cause issues; I use the 'restore factory defaults' before and after flashing, but I do not reset settings while flashing, as it causes the flash to not work on my other routers.

You can also peruse the individual release threads to gauge others' success, and/or your model is tried (rare for the old WRT's though now). _________________ #NAT/SFE/CTF: limited speed w/ DD#Repeater issues#DD-WRT info: FAQ, Builds, Types, Modes, Changes, Demo#

Successfully updated this today using the web interface after performing "reset to defaults" also using the web interface. The router came back up fine after this in a little over 2 minutes.
Here's a screenshot of the status tab on the router admin page:

26866 is a good build for that router. It should do anything you need to do.
The overall speed with the old WRT54G using this build is about as good as it gets....

Yes. I saw in another thread where you mentioned this build, so that's why I picked it specifically. Thanks for the tip. _________________ --==--

is dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin what we use for wrt54g v6??
You must follow the wiki for initial flashing. See also notes 3 and 4 of the peacock thread. That unit can only use micro. Not mini. Micro. K24 only.
I would use 12548 on that router. _________________ SIG:
