Have been looking for a R7800 or R6400 for a friend and neither are easily abpvailable in Canada ($300 for a 6400???) at reasonable prices.I know B&H has them (6400) reasonably priced, but by they time all is done they Are over $200.
I walked into A local store and saw a couple of R7000P on sale and with All in they were $165
Bought two and it was the easiest DD-WRT update I have ever done using 43471 (June 19, 2020)
Spent the weekend playing with it and throughput is reasonable on a 1 Gig service, via Ethernet getting 284 down and 23 up. With VPN running it was 92 and 21.
Not quite up to my R7800 but better than the R6400.
A good alternative...
