this is not the famous android issue of devices not going back on 5ghz when in range...this is a new issue with immobile clients that would always use 5g now going to 2.4g.... nearly all are intel 8260...win 7, win 8 and win 10...and none had their drivers updated for many months.... _________________ FORUM RULES

44321 is yielding the same crap fallback ...
Seems like the wifi drivers aren't yielding as powerful/consistent of a signal as the 44187-44236 builds.
I haven't found the exact build, yet, where wifi turns to shit like it does... but it seems like >44236 until I can test some more between 44236 and 44250/44251 (Those latter ones do start having issues with 5g to 2.4g fallback)

Patch against kr00k and adjust configurations accordingly or complain seems to be the "problem". Again, same SSID issues date back to long before either of us got here. Back to my original point... things were working just fine with same ssid for me and how I had the network set up...
right now 44213 held signals fine- 35ish minutes w/o dropping over. (usually shows up in 10-13 minutes if it will)
switched to 44215 and it will have to run that way until 5pm...but at the moment 44215 is holding steady too... I'll report back, don't you worry...
but again...there is a bug somewhere that was introduced with the driver commits; just have to find where. I ran fine with the same SSID for nearly a year's worth of builds...so it wasn't dumb luck...something changed at the driver level with how ath10k handles signals, and/or the TX pwr with regards to stability in strength. try 2.4ghz 200-300 beacon interval, 5ghz 75 beacon interval. dtim on 4 with 75 beacon = dtim on 1 with 300 beacon on the other band (dont have to line up, but id prefer them to).
but it ultimately falls with the client, it's threshold for switching, and the type of scanning it does, passive or active.. _________________ LATEST FIRMWARE(S)

well, the mystery deepens...
44213 has been running, but is proving to be problematic too in that intel clients swapping to 2.4 from 5ghz... These are mostly stationary laptops that move around once in a great while, but otherwise serve as htpc's...
44188 runs great and does not exhibit this strange wifi dropping behavior...
there's very little that changes between 44188 and 44213 to warrant this drastic change...
44191 is a patch issued by the guys making the ath10k drivers for linux, but that's the only thing I can point to right now that's of any significance...
what sets this all off...the stupid LG washer and dryer that have their wifi disabled, but do have a "smart grid" feature I am unable to permanently disable....not sure if the 900-930 mhz is somehow traveling through the router via line of sight and blasting the wifi signal to shit somehow...or if the LG washer dryer units are doing something else really goofy....but it only happens when they are first turned on. They cause all intel 8260 cards to duplicate on both 2.4 and 5ghz for a few minutes and then drop off to 2.4ghz...
super frustrating....
and before you start replies with the appliances, please don't go there...no I didn't want smart appliances...just happened to be an awesome sale at costco that we couldn't pass up to save on water usage doing laundry 3x/day...so piss off with any comments about that ahead of time...
I am looking for solutions and not rants about stuff... 44188 is rock solid...newer builds are not...this hasn't been an issue up until >44188...
I'm open to running any commands anyone is willing to offer as possible troubleshooting hints.
I may blow a call into LG too and escalate this...other ancillary reports can be found searching around about LG appliances taking down wifi and camera systems. _________________ FORUM RULES
