Hello,
I am a noob with dd-wrt firmware. I looked on the internet and I saw there are many DD-WRT versions (mega, micro etc). I bought a new router and in the firmware list there are just two firmwares (factory_to_ddwrt and webflash). I know their utilities but I want to install the equivalent of the mega version (mainly I want to install a VPN service), is this included in the webflash firmware?
Sorry for the silly question.
Cheers

In the early days (get off my lawn) routers had very limited flash sizes and RAM, so these different builds were necessary.

Don't know the model/version of your router, or the build number you are looking at, but I assume yours has plenty of resources already so there are only stock factory to dd-wrt installer and dd-wrt webflash upgrade binaries.

new router must be decent, to handle VPN
old school ‘new’ router is not gonna do well with VPN
for first flash use factory than use the webflash builds

First question is, what router is the OP even referring to? Other posts suggest that it may still be a WRT54* series. Some additional information would be quite helpful here.

ok thank you guys for the answers, I recently bought a new router (D-Link DIR-882, 128MB flash and 128MB ram) in order to use ENTWARE repo. I did not write the name since rules for this section ask to not write Router model. I think this router is enough for what I need (VPN, full IP-Tables firewall and get practice with DD-WRT capabilities, nothing in particoular), could you confirm?

This one is 16MB flash. OpenVPN eats up a lot of CPU, so better off using WireGuard instead.

I would suggest an older used EA8500, newer R7800 or an overpriced R9000.

To clarify, this section is not a device "help desk". It is, however okay to state router model if you are wondering about which firmware to flash, etc.; but that would be better to ask in the proper forum (Broadcom, Atheros, etc.). General firmware-related / feature-related questions are okay, though.
