thanks indeed for your help IONK. You had one extra line, the last, everything else was the same. I added it, it stuck on reboot but made no difference. Thanks anyway — think I've run out of ideas. The router will still be useful to me with only the 2.4GHz channel ... hope I have more luck with the next experiment - Wireguard client :-0

Hi,
I'm new to dd-wrt (3 weeks ago). I happily read lots of guidelines and successfully flashed TP-Link WDR4300 and now D-Link DIR-868L. Remarkably fuss free, impressive software and helpful documentation, thank you. One glitch, for the DIR-868L the 5GHz band did not appear in the UI, instead there were 2 x 2.4GHz devices. I disabled the second device as it was invisible to clients (Windows and Android). I searched forum re D-Link for a while but didn't see anything obviously relevant. "Wireless" screenshot attached.
Hardware D-Link DIR-868L hardware version A1
DD-WRT v3.0 r44112 std 9 Aug 20
Regional (time) setting: Sydney Australia
Any suggestions?
Thank you.
Same problem with the latest DD-WRT v3.0-r44251 std (08/27/20) firmware. Any luck on your side enabling the 5GHz?
Thanks ukirneK, steff012. I haven't pursued this problem as I found a cat5 cable to (not my) WAN router so didn't need to use wireless for WAN access. BTW followup to my final post, Wireguard client works beautifully with my vpn provider KeepSolid / vpnunlimited.
I managed to get it working by first installing the r25974 with a fresh reset. I then set the countrysetting and such. Then I flashed the latest without a reset and it kept the settings.
Steps to reproduce this issue.
From Factory firmware 1.00 install build 47381
The trouble exists.
Flash to build r25974 - This gives you the option you didn't have in the latest beta build to set country code on this router.
Save and flash 47381 back to the router.
That fixes issue.
Sounds like a bug where something has been removed from one of the versions.
I took this a step further and factory reset the router to determine if it would keep the 5ghz settings.
It has but there is no option to set country code, can that be reintroduced? I may have to post in the build testing page with this info. It looks like whatever breaks this is in the build process from factory to DD-WRT as the new build does keep the 5g settings (Though the country code can no longer be set in the new beta build.)
The country code is a global setting. It should be visible on the 2.4 band. _________________ An old man said, “Erasers are made for those who make mistakes.” A youth replied, “Erasers are made for those who are willing to correct their mistakes!” Attitude matters! ~ Anonymous

Today I ran into this issue with my D-Link 868L A1.
I followed the hint with the older stable firmware and then it worked for me, too. All set here - thanks!
What I saw in the status after the first time uploaded the newest firmware to the device (before I was getting back to 25974), was the note that I use a D-Link 880L (?).
Just a detail but maybe there is a version mismatch with the models in the newest beta firmware?
Could this be the reason why no 5GHz band is visible in the gui of this firmware? After going back to 25974, the device model was correct in the status.

I had the same problem that the 5GHz band was not available when replacing the factory firmware directly with the latest version of DD-WRT Firmware on my old D-Link DIR-868L (A1).
However, the instruction above worked well and fixed the 5GHz problem: I first installed the old firmware version from 2015 (01-20-2015-r25974), then updated to the latest firmware.
Hopefully this old WIFI AP now gets a new life after collecting dust for a few years away on the attic.
Now both my DIR-868L have 5GHz, but both of them show "880L" under model (expected: 868L), same issue as reported by dlinkrouter. nvram erase && reboot doesn't help. nvram set DD_BOARD=Dlink-DIR868L && nvram commit && reboot also doesn't help.
