I've read EVERYTHING (for over a week) and I'm still not sure which build to use. One place says don't use the betas, the other says use the latest beta. Another place says use vxworkskillerGV8-V3.bin first. Then dd-wrt.v24_micro_wrt54gv8.bin? Or dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin? I'm not doing anything till I'm confident. I've already bricked one router. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_WRT54G_v8.0_%26_v8.2

this is quite old and picky router to start with, a lot of hassle...
all newer routers, more hassle free..

if you can afford, have a look at Netgear R6400 v1 or v2, R7000, R7800....can get them on eBay/Amazon second hand

the old router you have, its so old, that it will be bottle neck, as its specs are very very low...

all new builds are here

Alozaros, thanks for your quick reply. I intend to use the router as a repeater to extend the range of my wifi signal. I'll follow the instructions in the link you sent. Maybe I'll get lucky and won't end up with another brick! Cheers mate!
