Asus AC88u (RT-AC3100) dual WAN support in DD-WRT firmware?

Hi,

The Asus AC88u 8 port router running the standard firmware doesn't want to accept two modem connections even though the option is there.

I've got the latest firmware installed and even updated it with the latest WRT-Merlin firmware... but the router won't save the Dual WAN settings.

Is the DD-WRT firmware any better at handling dual WAN's?

Is this the latest DD-WRT firmware for the AC3100?

P.S. I have an Optus cable modem 100 Mbps & NBN cable modem 50 Mbps and would like to either set them up so that they switch over automatically when the NBN falls over or load balance? So far neither option will work. Hitting the save button shows the busy signal but nothing gets saved.
