I have a Linksys WRT54GL running a version of dd-wrt I installed roughly around 2014 (can't pinpoint the version due to the problem at hand). Two days ago my Linksys device suffered a power outage, and its wifi didn't work anymore. I briefly saw its built-in Ethernet switch was still working, but I didn't remember the root password, so I did a 30-30-30 reset. Now my router is completely unreachable.
List of things I've already tried without success:
The computer I used to try and access my dd-wrt, a Lenovo Ideapad Yoga laptop with Windows 10, had a malfunctioning wifi driver. I uninstalled the driver, deleted the driver cache with BleachBit and ran "Detect hardware changes" from Device Manager, and the wifi adapter worked again, but the router wasn't providing any wifi network anymore.
I tried connecting to the built-in Ethernet switch again. Didn't work: it never got a DHCP IP.
I tried putting a static IP on the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet. Didn't work; accessing 192.168.1.1 only produced a host missing page.
I tried uninstalling Avira AntiVir from the laptop (as antiviruses often interfere with technical apps in unknown ways). Didn't work.
I tried scanning for wifi network from my phone (Xiaomi Redmi Note 7). Didn't work.
These wrt54g are hard to kill, but ...
No ping, no blinking power led. Get yourself an FTDI usb TTL serial ( 2 bucks on ebay ) and see if you get any output from the serial. If yes:
google: serial wrt54gl recovery ( ddwrt and openwrt links ), lot of pics and pinout arrangement.
The power light flashes and the internet light is constantly on. I tried to see if the Linksys device even had an IP address by connecting to the Ethernet switch and clearing the ARP table on my computer, and couldn't see any meaningful IP address on the ARP table, so I don't think a ping could be even possible.

I'm from Mexico, which means that 2 dollar FTDI USB TTL serial kit might very well end up costing me 500 pesos due to shipping and import taxes.
Mine had the flashing power light and I ended up recovering it from shorting the flash chip as a last resort. It started replying to pings again once I did that and used tftp to flash factory firmware on it. Once I verified it was working, I upgraded to dd-wrt. I followed the directions in the "recover from a bad flash" document... _________________ ASUS RT-AC3100 AP Merlin 386.12_4

I never bought one myself too. I got a surplus of old usb data cables from a cell phone shop.
Data cable from old nokia, LG, siemens, ericsson. And old usb data-clabe used to unloock cell-phones.
The trick is to get the correct generic usb driver.
Some of them, are just extension to the phone, but most of them ( nokia ) are usb to serial.
like these ones:
Nope, it wasn't actually. I now see that you've moved it from the Peacock thread _________________ ASUS RT-AC3100 AP Merlin 386.12_4
