Wondering if anyone has had experience with a totally unresponsive DIR-890L, where the power light is only ever white, and does not turn amber or flash? I've tried a 30-30-30 reset, and followed the recovery mode sequence in 890L guide, but I'm not able to connect over Ethernet cable to 192.168.0.1 from my desktop set with a static IP.

From looking around I've also seen mention of connecting via USB/serial to try to recover via Linux; I have a Pi that I could try connecting, is that a possibility?

Thanks for any advice you might have.

There is no telling what the 30-30-30 did, as the 890 is BCM4708 (Broadcom ARM). You don't do a 30-30-30 on ARM.

Emergency room requires an *older* version of IE. There is a couple of workarounds if your version of IE does not work:

Quote:
Managed to go to the emergency mode (turn off - press reset - wait 6 sec - power on- wait a few seconds), and used the curl command

Code:
curl -X POST -v -i -F "firmware=@DIR-600_Bx_FW218WWb01.bin" http://192.168.0.1/

Current browsers on Windows (IE, Chrome, FireFox) are too new for the recovery page in the DLINK router.
I found that
Code:
curl -v --form files=@DIR615C1_FW313NAB09.bin 192.168.0.1/cgi/index

transfers properly the specified DLink image and revives the router. From that image you can factory-to... and be back in DD-WRT world.

r40932 was the version that killed the router.

NOTE: You do the command from (in my case) a Windows command prompt. You need to get 'curl' off the net for your OS.

Thank you for the pointers, I'm still pretty much stuck on the fact that the router doesn't even respond to a ping, with my IP set to 192.168.0.2. I turn it on, power light is steady white, never changes to red, or amber/blinking. No way to issue the curl command you suggest. Is it toast in your estimation?

Putting it in emergency recovery mode can be tricky. What you can do is use wireguard to check what packets the router is sending out. Worst case is having to do serial recovery. Not sure if these have a header populated on the board or if they require one to be installed / soldered.

You may have to click back through that thread to see if there is a picture of the serial pinout. Otherwise, verify with a multimeter.

Try to set your PC to IP 192.168.1.98 / Subnetmask 255.255.255.0
For dd-wrt-routers, they are by default on IP 192.168.1.1
