Hi - I have a WRT3200ACM with the latest build on it. I'm in process of setting up some home automation devices in the house and there are some devices in the front end of my house that don't get a very good wireless signal. Now, from what I've read - for WDS, I should utilize either the same router model, or at least one utilizing the same chipset family. Any recommendations for something economical that I can stick in my garage to just boost the range another 100ft or so?

If you look at my profile you will see I use WDS throughout my network.
I have WDS on the 5Ghz band since most of my remote devices are 2.4Ghz
In particular I have WDS out to my barn at 500' range and the only hiccup is I have to have the 1900 on r31924 as the signal is weak at that range and any of the newer builds either won't connect or will disconnect regularly. All the WDS AP's are on r43652 without any problems.
In simple terms, any of the 1200, 1900 or 3200 wrt's will perform quite well with WDS.
If you do decide to setup, and have any problems just re-post or PM me.

***** UPDATE ******

I was thinking about your post overnight and felt I should add some additional comments.
First off, if all you want to do is extend you range, why not just use a Range extender? I have used these quite successfully and they are quite cheap compared to a WRT Router. As my profile shows the EX6200 has been used in the past and worked well for me. The only downside is not having all the advantages of WDS mostly full transmission of MAC codes without alteration.
On a separate note I noticed you indicated use of SMART devices (Home Automation), please be aware that the 3200 with DD-WRT doesn't like most of these devices and although there are workarounds, I personally have opted not to use my 3200's for any of these devices.
