Hello everyone,

Is there any meaning to enable single user beamforming if I enable multi user beamforming?

My router is Quad Stream Wave 2. I could also not find any option to enable MU-MIMO. Is MU-MIMO turned on by default or tweaked according to beamforming setting?

BS Build: R43420.
Netgear R9000.
Only enabled Wireless-AC.

On what router? Have you read the wireless settings wikis?

R9000. I read all wireless setting wikis.

Single User Beamforming:

Quote:
Controls whether 802.11ac beamforming is enabled for single user, aka "regular MIMO" connected devices that support beamforming.

Multi User Beamforming:
Quote:
Controls whether 802.11ac beamforming is enabled for multi user, "MU-MIMO" connected devices that support beamforming. Since MU-MIMO is a 802.11ac wave 2 feature, all wave 2 devices will support beamforming & MU-MIMO.

Totally confusing. My believe was MIMO & beamforming is 2 different things. Is there even something called single user and multi user beamforming? Or is it a merged term that means beamforming with SU-MIMO & MU-MIMO thus eliminating a need for seperate MIMO setting?

This is why you should not enable MU-MIMO:

If you have clients with a Broadcom chip that is not MU-MIMO capable, the throughput will actually be drastically lowered.

That doesn't answer my question Rolling Eyes To clarify, I only enable Wireless-AC and all my devices support beamforming & MU-MIMO. R9000 is called Atheros based.

The question isn't primarily about MU-MIMO as well. I want to know about relation between 2 beamforming and 2 MIMO setting. You'll understand if you read main question again plus my reply to kernel-panic69.
