Hello guys,
I got a 2nd hand WRT1900AC v1 couple days ago, and I would like to install DD-WRT like I did back in the days on my old WRT32GS v4.
As all my computers are on Lan, I don't care so much about wi-fi stability. I only use wi-fi for smartphones and eventually for our guests.
My needs/concerns are strong stability, routing, tunneling, strong security, strong firewall and VPN support.
I searched on the forum, but I read a lot of different things. What would be the best firmware? An older r31924 or r43192, or the latest r43266? Or another one?
Thanks you guys.

PS: Btw I tried Openwrt yesterday but I really don't like it, so I re-installed the Linksys firmware. If I understood well, now I have a partition with Linksys firmware, and the other with Openwrt, right?

My WRT1900AC V1 is running the latest version. Getting ready to install the new 7/23 r43904 today. 5Ghz WiFi is spotty, 2GHz is solid. One of these days I'll move up to a Nighthawk but for now this is in the budget and stays up even though I hammer it daily working from home.

I agree with the posted comments about recent builds. they are quite stable and will perform as you require.
In my profile you will note that I use r31924 for two of my 1900's. I have discovered that in all recent builds if the signal is in the fringe range (-70db+) the connection will be dropped and may not be capable of being re-established. r31924 does have any problem with signal level drops and suits my environment adequately.
If however as you indicate you require VPN and other security enhancements, you will require a newer build. That being said be prepared to encounter WiFi problems on both radios. I have tried many of the newer builds and they all appear OK for use on the 1900 as long as WiFi connections are solid. Case in point I still have one 1900 running a recent build as a WDS Station on 5Ghz without any problem. _________________ Starlink & DSL -> TPLink TL-R470T+
