Hello
I have fibre to the premises with a broadband wireless speed of 80mb using my BT router but the max I can get with the Linksys e1000 (dd-wrt installed) is 38mb. Does anyone know if this is to do with the build (v24-sp2 (03/25/13) mini) installed or is it the max speed of the linksys e1000?
Im having to use the linksys e1000 to create vlans for customer internet access as my BT router doesnt support this..
This is a short list of known good builds to update to, if you so desired. Not sure how much you would benefit with any further configuration tweaks or not, but there is also that; I wouldn't expect much improvement, though.

Thankyou for your reply, I thought it may be the limitations of the router.. can you recommend a cheap router that I could buy that will provide the 80mb broadband I am paying for?

I would check the TP-Link Archer A7 or C7 v5 prices. The only thing is, they are Qualcomm/Atheros-based, so certain things within DD-WRT are different from your E1000 Broadcom. May not be "cheap", but either should be more than enough. Otherwise, my recommendations are the R7500v2, R7800, or EA8500. Thanks for your help again. So if i buy the R7500v2, R7800, or EA8500 can I use the same settings (dd-wrt backup file) I have now on the linksys e1000? or will i have to install dd-wrt firmware on new router and start all over, setting up vlans on ports etc? Just i remember it took me ages to initially setup

You CANNOT restore the settings from another routers backup-file. This will screw up nvram and brick your new router.
Best Practice: start from scratch setting up you new router. It might be very helpful, if you take screenshots from your old routers GUI and set up your new router accordingly!

If you decide for a specific router, check the forum on how to upgrade to dd-wrt.
The ea8500 is a beast of hardware. However, some firmwares (especially the more recent ones for north america) block upgrading to dd-wrt. I've bought the European version for use in the office two years ago, and could upgrade. If you get north american version, you'll have to mess around with serial-ttl or maybe jtag.
Others are advertised to be ready for alternative firmware: Linksys WRT AC1200 and WRT AC1900. (But those are Marvell based, so you'll have to expect some differences in setup vs. Broadcom based routers)

i like to recommend Netgear R6300v2 for a cheap router, available used from Amazon USA for $25-$30, 800MHz CPU, 256MB RAM, AC Wifi, easy to flash. some of those used units will come without a power adapter or with a 110v adapter so if you have an old 2A adapter you're good.
