N66u update... went wrong (dd-wrt.v24-43028_NEWD-2_K3.x-big-RT-N66U)
Currently busy trying to reach its recovery FTP Server somehow.

Albeit knowing updating Kernel would take its time I hit power switch after only five Minutes of waiting without any signs of life. Guess who's stupid, me!
Wasn't and isn't reachable via PING. Going to repair it somehow.

Will edit this post if successful / forever gone.

[EDIT]
I reverted this N66 back to Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r42954 big (04/20/20).
Tried 3 times to update its firmware, two times from mini CFE one time from restored r42954.

The device just hangs. If switched off and turned on again it reboots, obiously even tries to enable Wifi (but no wifi available according to my devices, only LEDs are lit), but has no IP, cannot be reached via ssh, browser etc.

Unfortunately I cannot find my serial cable, it is lost somewhere here... in chaos. So no console log for now Sad(

In my opinion N66u and N66r are identical in hardware, no idea why my device refuses to accept this, and above mentioned N66r seems to work.

The WNR3500l v2 have a problem with this build too. After update from build# 42954 via ssh my device won't boot correctly. It was only orange power led and working switch. I haven't any access to device. I try simple and fast methods for recover device. I haven't any changes. Finally I had to use USB - TTL cord for flash via serial connection. Actually I'm back to build #42954. It's rather stable. When I try the newest build my flash task is finished correctly, but restart was incorrect.

Went through the motions from gui, got the "successful, router is rebooting" message, but router did not reboot, did not upgrade. Here's the end of the syslog:

Apr 30 05:10:11 bad-gas user.info : flash : done [29360128]

Apr 30 05:10:11 bad-gas kern.err kernel: SQUASHFS error: Unable to read inode 0x1ce416f2

After the "data probably corrupt" on the first try, I downloaded the file from https://download1.dd-wrt.com/ instead of the ftp server, no difference.

r42954 is only rebooting once or twice a day, so I'll stick with it for now.

Router Model: Asus RT-AC3100
Firmware: Version DD-WRT v3.0-r43028 std (04/29/20)
Kernel Version: Linux 4.4.220 #9 SMP Wed Apr 29 12:31:26 +04 2020 armv7l
OpenVPN Client, AP/NAT Gateway, uPNP enabled, no QoS

This is my first use of the experimental drivers using router-specific firmware. I had to reenter the WiFi information but all was correct including all channels, UU for VHT80, etc. (5 GHz channels and extensions were wrong before). Everything appears to be working correctly.

Anomolies:

WiFi LEDs are about half brightness from before but are blinking.
No temperatures for the radios in the status page.
All WiFi connections show LEGACY in the status page but are, in fact, showing proper speeds for the VHT connections (so just a GUI issue).

Prior build was standard build 42954 and was solid as long as I never went back to the status pages after initial status checks (see post under 42954 build thread).

Previous/Reset: Previous build r43012. Reset after flashing
Mode/Status: Gateway/AP

I had the 43012 build on it for over 1 day uptime and everything was running fine. Decided to flash this one for the slight kernel upgrade and it has been up and running great for a day. I've always seen people say newer kernels would use way more ram but it seems pretty much the same as the k3.10 builds. No complaints.

they are. i can reach my samba shares over my openvpn tunnel, check if you have a bad mtu setting. your log looks like packets are broken by the tunnel

Some apps seem to work others not, try to set the minimum protocol version to NT1, try other apps and one user reported this (but this was with WireGuard connecting):
Quote:
When you want to access the routers NAS via internet with an app like andSMB it appears you have to change the allowed hosts in tmp/smb.conf to include the WireGuard subnet (10.4.0.0/24). You can copy tmp/smb.conf to /jffs/etc/ if you have permanent/usb storage so that it will be read from there.

Please make a new thread about this, this is not for support
