This is an FYI in case someone else hits this issue...
(CV19 quarantine has given me time to dig into various things...)
Since r41517, any attempt to upgrade DD-WRT has resulted in the connection being RST after a few (random number of) packets -- I thought the router might be permanently stuck on that old release.
Today, did the triple power cycle, and discovered that the alternate image was r37139. Went back to r41517 which would return a RST on upgrade attempt. However, upgrading to factory image worked. From there, upgrade to r42847 succeeded.
Dunno if this issue was version specific, though I can't imagine what would cause DD images to fail, yet allow a factory image to successfully load...
