xfinitywifi <------> R7000-ClientBridge ======= R7000-Gateway <----> LAN

About a year ago we moved to a new home and Internet was not available in our area for a bit. So using one R7000 I created a Client Bridge to connect to xfinitywifi with my service that was still active, and then configured a gateway with another R7000. Bam, instant internet access for our whole home. Within a couple months we got an internet fiber connection.

I created a guide at the time that I thought I would share with the community now. Getting xfinitywifi configured on a Client Bridge is complicated, but I worked through it till I found the answer.

Enjoy!

DD-WRT Client Bridge Setup for xfinitywifi (from the attachment above)

xfinitywifi <------> R7000-ClientBridge ======= R7000-Gateway <----> LAN

Initial Setup
• Set Laptop NIC to DHCP
• Connect NIC to any R7000 LAN port (not WAN)
• Connect to ClientBridge via http://192.168.1.1
• Reset ClientBridge Router to DD-WRT Factory Defaults

DD-WRT ClientBridge Wireless→Basic Settings
• wl0 (2.4Ghz)
o WirelessMode:ClientBridge
o WirelessNetworkMode:Disabled
o SSID:xfinitywifi
• wl1 (5.0Ghz)
o WirelessMode:ClientBridge
o WirelessNetworkMode:Mixed
o SSID:xfinitywifi
• Toggle Wireless Network Mode as needed to switch between 2.4Ghz & 5.0Ghz
• Save and Apply Settings

DD-WRT ClientBridge Wireless→Wireless Security
• wl0 - Security Mode: 802.1x
• wl1 - Security Mode: 802.1x
• Save and Apply Settings

DD-WRT ClientBridge Security→Firewall
• SPI Firewall: Disable
• Filter Multicast: Checked
• Save and Apply Settings

DD-WRT ClientBridge Setup→Advanced Routing
• Operating Mode: Router
• Save and Apply Settings

DD-WRT ClientBridge Setup→Basic Setup
• Router Name: ClientBridge
• Local IP Address: 172.20.20.21
• Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
• Gateway: 0.0.0.0
• Local DNS: 0.0.0.0
• Assign WAN Port to Switch: Checked
• Time Zone: America/Denver
• Save and Reboot Router

Reconfigure Laptop NIC
• IP Address: 172.20.20.20
• Netmask: 255.255.255.0
• Gateway: 172.20.20.1
• DNS: 75.75.75.75 (or other valid DNS)

Connect to ClientBridge via http://172.20.20.21
• Verify Configuration
• Status → Wireless → wl0
• Status → Wireless → wl1
http://www.speedtest.net/

Disconnect Laptop NIC and connect ClientBridge Router LAN port to Gateway WAN port

DD-WRT Gateway Setup→Basic Setup
• Connection Type: Static IP
• WAN IP Address: 172.20.20.20
• Netmask: 255.255.255.0
• Gateway: 172.20.20.1
• DNS: 75.75.75.75 (or other valid DNS)
• Router Name: Gateway

At this point, xfinitywifi requires MAC address authentication via the comcast portal. It may be necessary to register a spoofed MAC from another device. Afterwards, you should be all setup!

A few notes:
• To access DD-WRT ClientBridge R7000 setup from the Gateway LAN:
o Temporarily disable VPN and/or PBR on Gateway
o Connect to ClientBridge via http://172.20.20.21
• Secure portal access via DD-WRT ClientBridge Administration→Management
• The IP 172.20.20.20 is special to xfinitywifi and is assigned to all wifi clients. This is typically done via DHCP but this implementation requires setting it as a Static IP.
