After Google bought Motorola, Motorola Home was sold to Arris and that included the SURFboard line of cable modems.
It took some time to transition and eventually remove the Motorola logo from their products.
My modem has a Motorola logo and the factory firmware showed it too.
Shortly after hooking it up, my ISP pushed a newer firmware and it switched to Arris.
I don't know if Intel Puma SoC issues have been fully resolved.
If the stock firmware had QoS (or I had access to the backdoor), that would probably be the only thing to make the ultimate difference. I don't have any contract or other obligation to or with the ISP for such access, unfortunately. I can install networks connected to their service all day long, but they balk at giving me the goods. Otherwise, direct to modem, wired, speedtests are much better now as far as latency. I haven't really looked for any hidden config pages like what exists elsewhere. But if you see that wonderful black heatsink, mine is actually running a cooling fan mod these days. I think these are actually being phased out. If they ever come to take it, they'll have to wait until I remove my mod
