I have done some browsing of the wiki & frum titles and I don't see what I need to know in order to proceed, so here goes.
I am still using win7 and Windows Media Center For a Dvr because I prefer Windows Media Center over any other DVR software I have tried(also, linux does not support all hardware yet). WMC is performing well for me, but I am pretty sure that my win7 PC has become compromised in terms of security and I need to find a way to isolate it from malicious internet traffic or at least from the rest of my local network..
Can your router firmware be used to close ports or narrowly control traffic to specific hosts within a network?
Can your firmware include antivirus, etc to intercept malware at the router? Or ...
-can it require internet traffic addressed to a specific win7 host to go through a linux host and be scanned by a real time antivirus program that can scan both windows boxes and linux boxes?
-Can it close/open specific ports on a host to control traffic? If so, I should be able to continue limited(dedicated) use of the DVR box safely on my network.

Does anyone know if these things are possible?
I have been aware of these router firmware projects for a while but I am a newbie to flashing hardware. I am going to this because of the specific concerns re; win7.
This should be a security concern that will persist pretty widely for a long time, because I don’t think win7 hosts will be converted or abandoned for quite some time. I also think malicious hacking is on the rise during the present health crisis.
I would think I am one of many needing to address this concern.

so, first im very sorry to announce you, that this post does not belongs here....and very likely to be deleted...as its not DDWRT related nor Advanced Networking....
Sorry, but for information regarding security and Window 7, ask in Microsoft Windows related forums, or help lines...or Google, it has all your answers already...

My advise, move to Win 10, look at ggl results, related to windows hardening stuff....
start reading DDWRT wiki, if you need to gain more knowledge about the project...

Routers are, simile things they can do routing and basic SPI firewall, as well Windows can do it too, as it has a robust firewall...and Win has an ability to run AV apps too..

Have a look at Google, as nobody here will be able to do your homework and pour a ton on knowledge directly into your brain...you have the power to do so, only....

If you face a troubles with understanding the matter, to sort your problems, call a specialist, im afraid it wont be for free, but those guys need to feed their families too..
