Hi,

I have a WRT54G V4 stable as a rock here with 8/4/06 dd-wrt, so when my sister asked me to setup her house network, I bought a buffalo and installed the same 8-4 generic std build.

I have found that WEP works intermittently, sometimes you can get an IP from dhcp and connect for a second before it drops, sometimes not. Not all clients support WPA so I havent tried it yet, but everything works fine with cleartext. My setup here is identical other than the router hardware difference, even same ssid and WEP key, and I have no issues. I have reset the router and clients and set everything up from scratch several times and cannot get it to work with WEP.

Has anyone else with a WHR-G54S experienced the same with 8-4-06 build? Or have WEP working with that build? I would (and will tomorrow) try another build but have to drive to the house to mess with it..

I am having absolutely no problems with this build date's MINI version, but I am using wpa2 -- Pre-shared Key Only -- AES encryption, not wep.

thanks.

are you using a WHR-G54S? If so could you try wep for me? If it is the problem I am having you will know within a few minutes at most.

Check the information in my signature to see if it matches your setup. I believe the main difference is that I am using the "mini" version. I just switched over to wep for a little while (15 minutes). I didn't experience any problems. Did you follow the following procedure?

reset to factory defaults --> flash firmware --> reset to factory defaults --> manually configure

Also, are you trying it with the same computer to rule out your sister's computer or wireless card?

15 minutes is way longer than I could ever hold a connection.

Yeah, I reset before and many times after. I would think the mini vs std wouldnt matter although im willing to try mini. There are 4 clients at my sisters house, all diff nics, those and my work laptop all experienced same thing. 8-4-06 is only build I have tried so far, might try another this weekend.

Might also want to see if there is any competition (interference) in your area by doing a site survey--if you haven't already. Have you tried a different channel?

Yep had same result on 1, 6, and 11. The router is set to 'auto' and is selecting channel 11.

There is a nearby wireless network that consists of several AP's, but all on channel 6. I am pretty well convinced it is not the issue. Even on channel 1 or 11 a few feet away from the AP the problem persists.
