Hi ,

On a Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 flashed with DD-WRT v24 .

I have my internet box with DHCP server + a D-LINK Wireless Access Point.

I would use the WRT54GL as a wireless client, to redispatch to some hardwares connected by RJ45. Here is a basic draw :

Internet Box - IP 192.168.0.1 - with DHCP Server from 192.168.0.100
|
|------ RJ45 Network --- PC1 - For example 192.168.0.10
|
D-LINK AP - IP 192.168.0.3
|
|_Y (Wireless antenna)

_Y
|
WRT54GL
|
|------ RJ45 Network --- PC2

I did :
- Factory default of DD-WRT, it has now IP 192.168.1.1
- PC2 get IP 192.168.1.100 from DD-WRT DHCP Server
- Status > Wireless > Site survey > Join my WLAN SSID > Continue > Wireless Basic Setting > Mode Client (already purposed by joining SSID) > Save + Apply
- Wireless Security > WPA2 Personnal + my key > Save + Apply

PC2 can ping 192.168.0.1. PC2 can reach Internet.

But I would have PC2 on 192.168.0.x segment and IP obtained by my Internet Box DHCP Server.

So in a first time, changed DD-WRT IP for 192.168.0.4 and DHCP Server Start IP 192.168.0.210
PC2 get IP 192.168.0.210
But not ping 192.168.0.1
No internet.

Can you help me to setup DD-WRT please ?

Thanks a lot Smile
Couin

You are using a 10 year old build which is well very old

Consider using a recent build, although it might just work Smile

You are probably looking to setup a client bridge see:
https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Client_Bridged

DHCP on that router should be disabled and I would set local DNS to your primary router but that is just me Smile

Hi dear,

Thanks for your answer.
I though that the "v24" in the filename ( dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.bin ) was the version, so I was saying myself "But where is v3.0 of the dropdown menu ?" .
I though so there was no v3.0 for this router.
I applyed the tutorial of the link you provided but DHCP was not passing through.

I curiously downloaded the dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.bin and effectivly, after upgrade, router is in 3.0 built 40559 .
It could be better to rename files to match with it ?

Also, I re-applied the tutarial and it seems to be good now Very Happy

Thanks for your great help Smile

New build releases are announced in this forum. One was released today, in fact. The only thing about older devices such as the WRT54s is YMMV and there have been known bad builds. You can follow the forum build release threads and do some homework on what to upgrade to.

Hi dear,

Thanks for your answer.

Effectivly, I wes refering only to the Downloads/Router database of the website, not to the community forum.

I saw now the annoncement ( this one ? https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=51486 )

But perhaps, now that the router does what I need, it could be better to not modify Smile

Thanks !

The Peacock thread is retained for historical purposes and what information is still valid. No need to upgrade if you're not worried about any firmware security patches, I s'pose.

I plan to use this router only on needed, for example when I tinker some PC in a room where I have no RJ45 Ethernet, so it won't be permanently ON, I doubt I risk anything about security suide Smile

Thanks !
