That's the point. The hardware does not change with dd-wrt, dd-wrt/openwrt ... does not include (chipset) manufacturer optimizations (drivers, linux patches) the device manufacturer has access to.
If you cannot use chip internal accelerators inside dd-wrt software replaces these functions, in this case you need more "horsepower" for the software -> upgrade hardware.
I assume, the device manufacurer gets a complete basic firmware build system and a prototyping board for his device engineering.
Regarding safety - If you don't trust the preloaded bootloader on your device, you cannot trust every firmware on it. And whats about hardware manufactured outside of your country? |
