Recently I've bought router Netgear AC2100.
Unfortunately, the netgear software doesn't support repeating Wifi.
I tried to find dd-wrt software for it, but there it seems that R7200 is not supported.

Does it have some specific hardware that couldn't be patched?
If not and it has a Soc similar to some other model, whether it is possible to use that version of dd-wrt?

https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices#Netgear

I can't find anything to go on as far as finding hardware specs on that router. Do you have the FCC ID #?

I think this may be the possible Mediatek model.

Basically I've bought it here https://www.walmart.com/ip/NETGEAR-Nighthawk-AC2100-Smart-Wi-Fi-Router-R7200-100NAS/770680374

Even though the walmart site claims "walmart only", it looks the same as the router mentioned in above message.

In addition, it feels strange but even having the router physically I have no information about it - no documentation, and the only thing labeled at its back is the serial number.

Should I unscrew it to get some more information?

"Another" MediaTek model. The only way you'll get more info on this router is to open it up and look at what is on the board. Not sure if telnetenable works on this device to get into the nvram variables. Also not sure if there is a serial header to use to do a serial dump from to get any valuable information on it. Seems like a lot of device manufacturers are going MediaTek since Marvell is rather crap. Guess to support 'new' devices, BS will have to take the plunge and start looking into the MediaTek details, or people will just have to suck it up. FWIW, most of the MediaTek devices I have encountered that are not currently supported by DD seem to work fairly well on stock firmware, and considering where they are sold mostly, most consumers don't necessarily care about custom firmware. They also *gasp* enjoy having a phone app to insecurely maintain their router *cringe*.

There is an option to enable Telnet under debug.htm and I was able to telnet 192.168.1.1

Not sure what you can dump via telnet. A serial dump would likely be more beneficial. You could try "nvram show" to see if it outputs anything, and then "nvram show | grep boardid". Serial dump would tell you what hardware is under the hood 100%.

nvram show worked but nvram show | grep boardid did not output anything.

Maybe four core IPQ40XX (Arm A7 717 MHz) ?

Maybe "dmesg" and "cat /proc/cpuinfo" form CLI/telnet will show some more?

But anyway without a donated device there might not come any support Sad

If the MOTD says "RALINK", most likely it's MediaTek, and probably before they changed the MOTD. There are a lot of these that are Sam's / Wal-Mart, Costco, Amazon, etc. specials that just have not garnered any time or support from DD-WRT because nobody has donated a device or done the homework. And the hardware isn't complete junk, it's fairly capable. It's just getting the routers added is not a simple solution.

Could you please edit your post and put that in a text file as an attachment? That just skewed the crap out of the page format.
