wi-fi power is limited by county domains

Hehe yes well i think the dd-wrt settings takes TX Power up to 251mW but the legal limit in the UK is apparently 100mW which seems quite low. (Still wouldn't want to produce a microwave oven!)

Netgear software settings just state 100% by default (no actual figure) so bet it's set low.
I think dd-wrt software sets TX power to 71mW by default, so could safely turn it up a bit via that; but also came across these type of antennas which will screw into the r7000p and hopefully give some sort of gain to signal:

Think I'll use a mix of dd-wrt increase to TX Power in settings plus use the antennas.

Leave TX at default power unless you know what you're doing and/or have extra cooling capability. I am not sure what the stock antennas' gain level is, but those 9db gain antennas will be okay with default power output. I wouldn't try going over 100mW if you do set it to something besides default.
