I have gone through every release from r41459 to r41954 and back down again, and it shows a clear pattern:
When having the TP-Link WDR4300 configured as a wireless bridge (only one antenna active, N/G on 2.4Ghz, HT40), it ceases to function properly after r41686 (2019-12-10). While it is able to see the router's wireless network and connect to it, the channel shows up as “unknown” and there is zero communication (0 packets) up or down. The router’s wireless on the 2.4Ghz is identically configured. I did not test on the 5Ghz because the most the bridge can do is N-only @ HT40 and the router is configured at N/AC @ VHT80.
I have even gone so far as to pop up to the very next release (r41771, 2019-12-21) to conduct a factory reset of the router, followed by a complete set-up. It remained unable to connect to the router until downgraded back down to r41686 (which allowed it to successfully connect with no other changes).
This behaviour has been replicated across three different WDR4300 routers.
The only other model of TP-Link I own is the Archer C7 v2 (2 bridges), and it does NOT suffer the same issue. All other bridges are Linksys models that are similarly symptom-free, including an e3000 which is also configured as 2.4Ghz N/G HT40. All functional bridges have been synchronized to r41954.
How do I go about communicating this issue to the people maintaining the packages for the WDR4300? _________________ I am a simple man; my complexity evolves from multitudes.
