WRT32X FlashRouters Privacy App Install issue 41664

Hi All,

I just switched to NordVPN and wanted to try the FlashRouter Privacy App to setup the VPN connection.

https://nordvpn.com/tutorials/dd-wrt/flashrouters-privacy-app/

Following this page it seems simple yet I'm unable to install the app after running the command:

curl --insecure --silent https://api.flashroutersapp.com/api/v1.0/ddwrt/group/privacy/provider/NordVPN/install | sh

I get the processing please wait dialog box but it never says install complete and I can't access the MyPage app GUI.

Is it compatible with firmware 41664? Has anyone got this app working?

Yeah, uhm, you should probably try running that command from a telnet or ssh connection, not the webUI commands window.

An update if anyone else comes looking.

After installing the app via telnet all worked fine until I restarted the router. After that it failed again.

I believe the issue is that the start up script is run in the same way as the GUI commands and so fails.

I have contacted Flashrouters to see if this is a reproducible issue from their end.

I guess I'm not as worried as you. Cool

I read about the hack before making my choice. Nord suits my needs.

I used PIA for a long time and so far I'm happy with the switch. Not regretting my choice despite the 'hack'.

Don't need an account. I don't have one it's available to download for specific vpns.

I assume you want one that is vpn provider agnostic.

In that case you may need an account I haven't looked into it.

Check you vpn provider's site they may have one setup and give a how-to on installing.

I am having a similar issue trying to install the flashrouter app for nord vpn. I figured out how to login to my router with SSH, but I have not yet been able to figure out how to execute the following code through SSH:

curl --silent --retry 3 https://api.flashroutersapp.com/api/v1.0/ddwrt/group/privacy/provider/NordVPN/install | sh

Would anybody be able to tell me what syntax or commands are needed to process this code through SSH?

Consider you are asking for help about unsupported third party app which likely has not been updated in years.

We have no idea the exact model router you use, also no clue about which build currently installed and running.

Probably should start with the forum guidelines then after read the OpenVPN guides and documentation by egc.

Maybe try a search for Advanced Networking threads, e.g. DD-WRT OpenVPN Client Setup Guide with NordVPN.

FWIW, there's a dd-wrt guide to Nord setup, from earlier this year: https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=328049&highlight=nordvpn

I'd sure be reading that before trying to run some complex script on my router that I hadn't studied beforehand. Maybe it's just me, but I find downloading anything right into a shell for execution as root to be somewhere between unnerving and just nuts.
