r7800 as main router
no QoS
AT&T gigabit up/down internet connection

So I've been running r41113 on my r7800 for a while now with no issues. Got a wild hair and decided to upgrade to r41659 and later r41664 today. I noticed that my 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz wifi performance dropped dramatically (iperf3 numbers and general speedtest about half of what they were). dslreports speed test via a wired connection was good but bufferbloat was huge. (went from A/A/A to B/C/A on the dslreports grades).

I flashed back to r41113 and the performance numbers are back to "normal" (369Mbps on iperf for the 5GHz channel instead of 167Mbps, dslreports happy with no bufferbloat)

My question to the group is: is this because I've never reset nvram? Or is there something else?

Ok, im a novice but ive always been told to chear nvram if you use a different build and dont use the same config file for different builds. Im running the latest on my r7800 and im happy so far. My wifi seems fast and doesnt drop connection.

Thanks. I'll re-flash, reset and manually re-enter my settings and see what happens.

That definitely resolved the wireless issues...still getting big bufferbloat numbers on the wired connection that I didn't have before.

Firstly, see if the shortcut forward engine, sfe, is turned on under the main setup tab. If it is that's fine. Proceed to www.dslreports.com/speedtest and run a test to find out what your actual speeds are. Then, go back and turn off sfe, and start to tweak your qos settings accordingly. Note that 100mbs is 100000kbps. I would start with HFSC and PIE or fq_codel.
