Hi,

I installed a DD-WRT firmware, all configured, but i have few problems. Compared to OpenWRT in DD-WRT I cannot install any additional packages.
I need a Samba Net, I would like to have ability to start and stop windows service from router.

In Windows it is very easy to use command "sc start|stop"

Is it possible to install Samba tools on DD-WRT router?

I have WRT32x.

You can install additional packages with the help of Entware: https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installing_Entware

You can see the available packages here: https://bin.entware.net/armv7sf-k3.2/Packages.html

Newest DDWRT builds have Samba4 already (only on routers with enough flash RAM).

Most service can be stopped with "stopservice"
and started with "startservice"

so for DDWRT it is "stopservice samba3" and "startservice samba3", "restart samba3" will also work (the process is still samba3 although samba4 is invoked it seems)

You have to update to the latest beta. Link below. Just read the FAQ on how to update among the stickies.

I use WRT32x as well, and using two 8tb external HDDs without issue. Although I think for example Asus's version of OpenWRT are more responsive to wake up the drives.

USB 2.0 is really slow, but fast enough to stream and transfer files or directly download to it. Have not found an adequate solution to use drives with eSATA.

The Samba Net tools are not installed by default you have to install them yourself like I wrote in my earlier post.

You can use Entware to install additional packages like I wrote in my earlier post. I even added a link to the packages list, the Net tools are there.

Nobody listens to me not even BS Crying or Very sad

Basically yes, however you can make a small permanent storage (/jffs) when you enable JFFS2 on Administration/Management (only routers with sufficent flash)

I am not a big fan, your flash ram is not intended for read/write operations (will wear out) and the only time I bricked a router was when that was enabled and I upgraded without first disabling jffs2 and reboot.

But I know there are people using it Smile
