I have a WNDR3700v4 with DD-WRT that's suddenly restarting every few hours. I'll give more info below, but I'm guessing it won't be enough to diagnose; what more information could I collect?
Configuration details:
- It's WAN port goes to a FIOS router configured to be transparent, so NAT-forwarded ports are visible on the internet
- Using VOIP phone to remote site
- Occasionally use audio over IP software (Livewire)
- A number of WAN ports forwarded to various LAN machines
- Using 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi
Things I've tried:
- Updating to DD-WRT v3.0-r40459 std (07/30/19)
- Disabling just about all of the system services
- Resetting to factory settings and then hand-restoring the settings (this stopped the restarting for a few days, but it then resumed)
- Setting up DD-WRT logging to an internal machine (no unexpected messages before restarts)
On the WNDR3700v4 just used as a switch / ovpn server /samba share running r41468 std (11/06/19) uptime 2 days, 12:53
Hasn't give any problems at all but its radios are disabled.
---
I CAN vouch for the r41241
I really ain't suspposed to do this cause r41241 twas never a public release but it works damn good on my WNDR3700v4.
You can get it here ---> 'WNDR3700v4_r41241'
I've had the old WNDR3700v4 in as my main router for last 3 days while I tinker with the EA8500 and it never misses a beat anywheres.
it was setup about same as I normally use run EA8500 main router:
I noted only differences I use on the WNDR3700v4
WAN is auto DHCP + WAN MAC clone
DHCP-Authoritative
EA8500 I use Recursive DNS Resolving (Unbound) but not on this
Forced DNS Redirection
Wireless ath0, ath0.1 & ath1
Wireless Security = WPA2 Personal / CCMP-128 (AES) for all three
VLAN on its physical port4 together with ath0.1 via br1
DNSMasq
34 static DHCP leases
Local DNS
No DNS Rebind
Query DNS in Strict Order
EA8500 I also use OpenVPN Server but not on this
Samba share USB Ext4
Port Range Forwarding
QOS HFSC FQ_CODEL EA8500 I use CAKE
I have a 50/50 fiber ISP connection and all is very good ...
... some of your settings --- and/or if you have a really fast connection you might be running its 560 MHz CPU a little too hard.

Ain't nobody can say shit if you are sharing something from your own private FTP. Now, if you had given the login and specifics for the alpha builds FTP access, then yeah, you might get in trouble. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

Thanks for the report, but I've seen my unit last longer than that before it crashes. And, I have to use WiFi, so it's possible what's reliable for you won't be for me.
I'll wait a few days, hoping someone can give me some suggestions on what data to collect. If nothing else comes up (and your unit doesn't crash in the meantime) I'll give that release a chance.

... sorry? Is there something else going on here that I don't know about?
You were given a link to a "Solid" alpha build to use that came from the alpha build section which only a select few have access to...I would snatch up the link/file above in MRJCD's post and install it on the router and then follow my signature link below on best wifi to set up your WNDR3700...with the caveat that you won't have qam256 nor HT80 in the options because you have old N300 hardware . All other suggested settings will work if you copy my suggestions otherwise.
If you continue to have issues it may just be your hardware is starting to fail...it is an old router after all and capacitors and other electronics are susceptible to issues over time. It could be a bad power supply too with flaky output...anything is possible....
I would enable logging and klog and set up a logging server to capture things. _________________ FORUM RULES

I installed the version mrjcd recommended, and my unit's been working fine ever since (10+ days). So, either the version had fixes for my issue, or I had a bad firmware write. Either way: thanks.
