Flashed with the latest dd-wrt here:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/other-downloads?path=others%2Feko%2FBrainSlayer-V24-preSP2%2F06-03-10-r14537%2Fairlink101-ar690w%2F

still seems that the switch isn't working

Edit: There is much more info here:

So loaded up the 14537 build as well still no switch, dmesg output attached). Tried hunting around and it seems that there is nothing about the switch in any of the devices in proc or dev (cant get any output out of cat'ing the dev/mtdblock(s).
Even went so far as validating a good boot with the stock airlink firmware and it does an GMAC init as well as a GPIO probe on the switch.

submitted a ticket to trac for review.

http://svn.dd-wrt.com:8000/dd-wrt/ticket/1580

Edit: Found that there is no driver included into the src for the rt2880 (ar690w chipset). The driver exists but hasn't been implemented

look here:

So i just got my serial TTL 3.3v adaptor http://www.robotshop.ca/ftdi-usb-to-ttl-serial-cable-3-3v.html

I connected up to the pin headers according to the pinout from frzndrag and i can only get garble.

I tried almost all the baud rates, but its specified 57600 8 1 no flow.

Still no luck.

Im not sure as to what im doing wrong, anyone have any ideas?

I have connect the rx pin from the usb cable to the tx pin of the ar690w and ground to ground.

Edit: Tried Realterm inverted, still get garble. Not sure whats causing this. Maybe the cable im using isn't any good. I will try a different one when i get it.

Thanks Sash, I was wondering as to what would cause this problem.

Doesn't the 8366 driver have the gpio info already programmed into it?

http://svn.dd-wrt.com:8000/dd-wrt/browser/src/linux/pb42/linux-2.6.23/drivers/net/phy/rtl8366rb_smi.c?rev=13863

I could be wrong but i did check the driver for gpio information and it looks like its already been done.

If thats not the case then is it just a matter of how it was manufactured into the circuit board? (different pinouts?)

No, there are gpio driver routines but they need the gpio number as an argument.
Which cpu gpio pins that has been used is design specific.

I googled a bit today to see if there were any resources available on the net and that was a sad reading.

Airlinks US branch was sued in December last year over not publishing the GPL code for AR670W and AR690W.
They have responded by publishing the AR670W GPL code but not the AR690 GPL code which can only mean that they don't have it.

http://www.linuxfordevices.com/c/a/News/SFLC-suit-against-Best-Buy-et-al/

The AR690W firmware may have been bought from a subcontractor or plainly copied from another manufacturer, they have now instead listed the AR690W as Discontinued on their product page.

I see that the router is sold on outlets for $39 which is a very low price for a gigabit N router, looks like they have dumped the price in order to get rid of what they have in stock.

I'd say that there is no future in this router..

Hey LOM!
thanks for getting back to me. I feel some enlightenment on this subject. I am still new to dd-wrt but not so new to programming. I appreciate your feedback, I would love to get this working but if there is no data, then there is no data. Its sad to think that a company (airlink) would do such a thing when a similar one works but, you win some you lose some...

Anyway i suppose i will get back to the stock firmware Sad and use it as a gigabit wireless router instead of what my plans were for it. Suppose I'll stick with manufacturers that release there gpl.

Thanks guys!

Don't give up yet, there may be a chance for getting the right gpio's.

I edited my last post - download of the original firmware from their site is possible if one doesn't use a download manager that opens more than one connection at a time to the site.

I have looked into other mfrs gpio pin usage and it seems common among them to follow Ralinks reference design for RT2880/RTL8366SR so I have added to your trac ticket and suggested devs to try those gpio's.

Thanks LOM,

I will follow the trac ticket to see where it lands.

Just taking a look at the router database on the main site. It shows that the ar690w has gone from wip to supported. I havent tried any of the builds since 14815. Can anyone confirm that any of the newer builds work with the switch.
