Hello,
maybe I'm doing something wrong and need help here but my findings so far are below.
WRT32X as AP, it needs to give wi-fi access to my local network (some call it dumb ap)
I measured the speed using iperf 2.05 https://iperf.fr/iperf-download.php#windows with simple settings.
The iperf server is using a gigabit cable connection and the start command is iperf -s, the iperf client is connecting to the WRT32X device on the 5GHz network and using the iperf command iperf -c SERVER_IP
I continued testing with openwrt latest stable and wrt32x stock firmware, as they gave the 2 best results in the 1st test.
Used iperf3 this time, and also just big file transfer in windows. Results are below, but it seems either the proprietary drivers or something else in the linksys firmware makes big difference regarding speed.
It looks like the throttling in the openwrt and dd-wrt firmware is intentional as it happens so constantly. BTW, the speed drop that we see below in openwrt every 5 seconds or so were exactly the same in dd-wrt.
Any comment by someone more familiar with this will be appreciated.
running openwrt 18.06.4 on Linksys wrt32x I get full gigabit LAN speed ~115MBps from and to my centos server on my hardware raid6 array (24TB) formatted as ntfs and my windows desktop on a ssd drive with wired cat5E cables.
From this I could not direct you to a solution as I got this from first day setup.
Good luck!
edit: sorry, just reread your post and saw you were testing over wireless. I cannot test speeds over wifi as all is connected through wired cat5e
