I assume in advanced routing it is set to gateway mode and not bridge mode? _________________ Router Model: Netgear R8000

doh, I meant router mode above, not bridge mode.
Well thats good. Mine is setup the same.
I have my connection type set to static ip for some reason, so just set it back to dhcp.
I don't know enough to help really, other than suggesting a reset. _________________ Router Model: Netgear R8000

All working now, i reset both the router and the VM modem went in the shower and its all good.
now to try and set up my wifi, this is where i had issues on the wrt32x and sent it back, my smart "stuff" would not connect to the 2.4ghz no matter what i tried and then the AC band kept just dropping randomly for no reason, would be working when i went to bed, gone when i got up.

I had poor speeds to start with. In the end I switched it to channel 100, VHT80 and turned on Implicit Beamforming. I made no other changes at all. Now I get my full 350+Mbps, and an average of 80MBPS LAN transfers, for large files. when I am moving smaller mixed file sizes the average is about 50-60MBPS. _________________ Router Model: Netgear R8000

All 3 are enabled. The 2nd 5G one is on HT40 and only used for guests that moan they need 5G.
The 2.4G is used for appliances that need Internet access (TVs, kindles etc) and other guests.
The VHT80 is used just by my laptop and phone.
I just did internet speed test and only getting approx 260Mbps.
It not the Wifi itself at fault, as I just checked the LAN and got about 63MB/s (approx 500Mbps), uploading to my NAS for a large file (HD Movie), but this is acceptable. I have had faster but its ok as it is but my try to teak it more to get back to 80MB/s.
Internet slowness at the moment must be down to Virgin. Probably localised.
Maybe try to move some large files around your LAN to rule it our being Virgin. _________________ Router Model: Netgear R8000

Its not virgin thats the issue, getting 387 mbit down every time i speed test.
The wrt32x was able to send that speed as well but only aftwr i tweaked a setring, that routwr had 20, 20/40, 80 and 160hz settings but the r8000 only has 80.
Its the strength of the other band too its really piss poor.
Im in work now but will play around tonight.
I only want the high speed for 2 streaming boxes that stream from the net and my nas box as well.
One of the 5ghz bands is for the lower channels, the other for the upper channels.
If you set the lower band one to higher channels, you will get crappy signal. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.
