For the update of openwrt I thought maybe the we/you luci installed does not work with the older customised version of openwrt we used. An update to openwrt with the reset switch might have allowed luci to be installed working (but maybe not). But going to an older version of stock is a much better idea. _________________ Router Model: Netgear R8000

Using netgears instructions for entering tftp mode on the r8000 were next to useless tried loads od times, always failed pc site with "Connect Request Failed"

I read somewhere about having 2 command windows open. 1 doing the ping and the other with the command typed in ready to flash and to keep trying. Apparently its a short windows. Never tried myself though. _________________ Router Model: Netgear R8000

Im now stuck with a choice, i have a serial cable i can use however to fit it i have to break the seal on the router and notonly void the warranty, if it goes shit shaped i wont be able to return the 2 day old router either.

For luci if you want to go that way it is probably best to create a post there, openwrt, explaining what has happened. They may even have some better suggestions, a sit is openwrt that is currently installed.? _________________ Router Model: Netgear R8000

Did you not already try flashing through openwrt and get an error to do with the linux partition? _________________ Router Model: Netgear R8000

for the luci problem I read someone had similar problems and had to keep trying to download.
They wrote:
Code:
opkg update (had to keep rerunning to get all the packages down)
opkg install luci (had to keep rerunning to get the install complete)
/etc/init.d/uhttpd start
/etc/init.d/uhttpd enable
mv /etc/config/luci.bak /etc/config/luci (added by me) _________________ Router Model: Netgear R8000

it downloaded and installed ok, just got the error i posted before when trying to connect.
new problem now though, since trying to do the netgear tftp by pressing reset openwrt isnt even working any more and im unable to get into the device at all.
Last option would be to use the serial solution, but theres no real instructions on doing that, i know how to connect it up etc as its same as on the old VM modems but i dont know what serial client to use (always had a program before) things like that.
This looks a problem other people are also having, unable to interrupt the boot process..
It seems on the r8000 it knows there is a serial device plugged in a does not boot.
Basically with it plugged in all the bottom lights co.e on and juat sit there. If you unplug either ground or the usb device them the bootloader fires up.
The threads you linked to is full of people with same problem.
Maybe the o es ypu flashed were older models and they have atopped people serial flashing now?
I have otdered an ftdi cable see if that works any better than the usb to serial stm one i have although mi e supports 3v3 and 5v.
