This router is based around the Netgear Nighthawk R7800 besides having 512mb of Flash and 1024mb of Ram. It has beta OpenWRT support up and running. Is there any chance of seeing a DDWRT build in the future kinda a hidden gem of hardware.

Does not look like an R7800, uses only the same SoC and radios.
But is produced by different manufacturers in different countries and the flash layout looks completely different.

so it's not really based on the R7800 but is similar

Gotchu, yeah these things are everywhere now pawn shops, thrift stores, all over the Internet cheap I’ve came across a few at work I do maintenance on rental properties. I’ve got a box at the house of about 12 of them. Wondering if there’s any hope OpenWRT is fine and all but for everyday home use it’s a pain when you need to reconfigure things.

Well maybe you could donate one of them and send it to Germany.

Maybe send an email to BrainSlayer

"Do not flash OpenWrt on this router if it's currently being rented from Spectrum. The stock FW has a dual partition layout for redundancy and flashing this image will wipe out both partitions and a partition with info for provisioning with Spectrum, so there will be no way to revert it back to stock. I tried backing up/restoring the original parts but it caused the ubi partition for overlay to become corrupted so settings would be cleared after a reboot."

"Spectrum has a revision of this router that has no local web interface, a QR code on the back with SAC2V1K next to it, and the only way to change settings is through the My Spectrum app. This revision has a 256MB NAND chip but is otherwise identical. This image should work perfectly fine with that router but it's only been tested with initramfs so flash at your own risk."

Interesting, send him two unaltered in case one breaks or for revision differences. Smile

Good deal I’ll have to check to make sure I have more of the K model. I have all the RAC/SAC routers the 2v1s,k,a and the 2v2s and 2vs2s. I’ll be more than glad to start salvaging more to send over. These things are trashed like candy, spectrum passes them out and almost every time someone leaves they don’t turn them in and put them in the junk pile for me to trash and just take the charge. If any of the other routers look hopeful I’d be more than glad to ask about them too.

How many models total does that make it?

RAC2V1K and RAC2V1A are relatively similar but different manufacturer, flash and ram (size is same).

Also, the BGN (2.4 GHz) radio on RAC2V1A is QCA9983, not QCA9984.

SAC2V1K is half size flash, still Qualcomm Atheros SoC, but seems less common. No idea about its radios.

RAC2V1S can be completely ruled out, as it's different hardware (Broadcom).

Not sure about others. Maybe it is better to focus on primarily RAC2V1K, followed by SAC2V1K or RAC2V1A.

6 total different models, there’s the Atheros: RAC2v1K Askey one, RAC2v1A Arris, Sac2v1a Commscope, Broadcom: RAC2v1s, RAC2vs2s, and RAC2v2s Sagemcom. K model is the cream of the crop, SAC2v1a model is the next best it’s a clone of the Askey one but requires 4 pin serial connection to get root, RAC2v1A is the Arris one not much info available testing wise but likely similar. The Broadcom models the S model is a side project porting ASUSWRT-Merlin to it currently he said he managed to get root on it in a similar fashion to the Atheros Models no updates in a long time though. I checked earlier extras in that box are all Broadcom ones(extra common apparently) I’m gonna check a couple Ned vacants at work tomorrow see if there’s any laying around.
