hi

my R6700v3 is super slow running rsync or doing sftp, I get from 8 kb/s up to 80 kb/s download speeds, if I plug myself directly into the modem, I get the full expected 2+ mb/s

so this is insanely slow.

I get 80ish around using QoS, if I disable QoS in dd-wrt, the speed drops down to around 8 kb/s

if I run speedtest.net I get the full 2mb/s download speed.

Notice: I run rsync and sftp from an ubuntu box from my windows host.

any ideas what I could try?

Not a real answer to your problem, but have a look at the install guide: https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=316399
(and not because I wrote it Wink )

Have you done an
Code:
nvram erase && reboot
after upgrading?

My R6400v2 (which is the same router save the detachable antenna's) is doing almost 300 Mb/s without and around 700 Mb/s with SFE.

So there must something seriously wrong with your setup

Looks like there's an underlying problem with the R6400v2/6700v3 when running DD-WRT. Sometimes my speeds dropped from 50-47 (ISP speed) to 27-34 mbps and single stream speed (when you use SFTP, HTTP, etc to download a file) was capped at 0.4-3 mbps. It's an erratic behavior because sometimes it works perfectly but after two days the speeds go down and it needs several reboots to recover full-speeds. SFE doesn't even seems to work when this bug appears because it can only maintain 20 mbps for a few seconds and then it drops back to 1-3 mbps. I don't have any kind of syslog or something to reproduce the problem but it's real and annoying.

I also tried FreshTomato and those problems weren't present but WiFi is completely unreliable (crazy ping spikes and frequent disconnections). BTW I reverted my R6400v2 to stock firmware while I wait for my Mikrotik hAP AC2 to arrive (I ordered from Amazon but I don't live in the States so I have to wait more).

I run a bunch of them and they are rock solid (provided you did nvram erase && reboot from CLI).
Only thing I do not use is QoS.
A lot of work has been done on QoS lately.
If you really have to use it step up to the latest build and research what are good settings.

Well, the problem also happened to me right after doing a nvram erase && reboot without any custom config. The last build I tried was r41269 but it also happened on an older December 2018 Kong build, R39960M and hist last build so the problem may be related to the Broadcom network stack not being fully compatible with kernel 4.4 nor a hardware issue (I don't think it lacks processing power to handle DD-WRT).

The last good stock firmware was 1.0.3.66 (the last before the Armor payware crap) and I'm running it for a week without any single slowdown but it lacks the advanced features that I need (Bandwidth management, VLANs and VAPs).

These routers are used a lot see all the build threads.
I run 5 of them for friend's neighbours etc.
I have used alot of those builds without a single problem.
Especially Kong builds were very good.
But recent BS builds are also excellent.
These routers are on 4.4 for more than a year.
So not sure what is going on with your router but the builds you mention should work without a problem (can not vouch for QoS)

I have another theory of the router being incompatible with my ISP's Huawei ONT when running DD-WRT because WAN-LAN performance is always my max ISP speed when using FreshTomato or stock firmware. On the DD-WRT VLAN page the WAN port is always at green which I guess is for Gigabit Ethernet; but the router isn't able of getting at least the 50 Mbps I'm paying for.

Yes, chinese stuff, they do not like DDWRT, gives them no control and cannot hack it Wink
But, seriously, a vexing problem.

Are you connecting with DHCP? If so just use automatic DHCP.
If you are connectiong with PPPoE then the problem might be the VLAN tagging?

Builds you can try are Kong's latest 40270 (in the guide is a link were it is still avialable) or the latest BS build 41328.

As always after uploading telnet/putty to your router and do:
Code:
nvram erase && reboot

Setup manually do not restore from a backup!

Just use with basic settings, set Wifi passwords WPA2/AES, do not use auto channel (that does not work), set rekey interval to 0

I hope you can get this solved

The Huawei ONT is on bridge mode and supposedly it's already performing VLAN tagging so you can connect any device and get a public IP by DHCP. I also tried 40270M after doing an nvram erase + power cycle and the speeds are ok, then I reboot the router and my speed is now 1 Mbps but I haven't changed anything apart from the admin account password. That's what's happening to me with all builds, I need 5+ reboots to get back to full speed for some days until it drops again.

When my hAP AC2 arrives I'll do some tests to check if the R6400v2 works fine when is connected to the Mikrotik router instead of the Huawei ONT (which is technically better because it has 4x4 QCA9984 radio but the FW just allows me to change the wifi password or enable bridge mode).

I got my hAP ac2 and my speeds are always 47/50 Mbps with fasttrack (some kind of flow/hardware offloading/acceleration) and 41/42 Mbps with QoS enabled at 42/42 Mbps limit. The speeds never go down even if use an old cat5 cable on purpose to see if it slow downs. I haven't had too much free time to test the R6400v2 connected to my hAP ac2 instead of being connected directly to the ONT.
