Best Build for D-Link DIR-601 (rev. A1)

I've got a D-Link DIR-601 (rev. A1) with factory firmware. The flashing instructions:

...say to download:

https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2011/02-17-11-r16214/dlink-dir601a1/dir601a1-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin

...but also say that I could perhaps use a more recent build of DD-WRT.

Questions:

Q1: What is the most recent build that will work on the DIR-601, and where can I find it?

Q2: Given that the router does not currently have DD-WRT, can I go straight to that build or do I need to install some other build first?

Q3: With a Linksys WRT54G-TM I needed to load a replacement CFE before flashing the router with DD-WRT. Why no mention of loading a replacement CFE with the D-Link DIR-601?
