I have read through the numerous threads on this topic, and tried several of the recommendations without success.
Issue: Unable to connect to 2.4 or 5.0 WIFI with DD-WRT Firmware
Background: New WRT3200ACM.
1. With stock Linksys Firmware (1.0.6.186186) both WIFI interfaces operate correctly.
2. Flashed several factory-to-ddwrt firmwares (r33607, r35244, r39290, r39800, r39825, r39827) from stock build, resetting to default with each flash. In all cases, I cannot connect to either WIFI.
3. Trying to connect using a Windows10 Laptop and a Samsung Galaxy S8+.
4. No WIFI LED activity on 5.0 connection attempt.
5. Brief WIFI LED activity on 2.4, but connection fails.
5. Both WIFI LEDs flash momentarily when booting (appears to be normal situation)
6. Security is WPA2 Personal/TKIP on both WIFI. Mode is MIXED on both WIFI.
As a further test of the hardware, I flashed the ExpressVPN Firmware, and the WIFI operates correctly.
Before I flash and attempt to run DD-WRT again I need to compile a list of "things to try"
Any suggestions and help is welcome. I only have a few hairs left.
Try the security setup with WPA2 Personal / CCMP-128 (AES)
Make sure the Wireless > Mac Filter > Use Filter is NOT enabled or if it is enabled make sure your wireless device MAC's are entered into the MAC Filter List
Another thought, if you are running ExpressVPN apps on your other devices you may need to enable Security > VPN Passthrough > IPSec Passthrough (enabled) to get a connection.

Thanks for the suggestions. To answer a few of the questions:
Wired operation of the WRT3200ACM is fine.
I do not have ExpressVPN operating on either of the devices that I attempted to connect via WIFI.
My purpose in going the DD-WRT route is to install ExpressVPN at the router level.
I am currently operating with the ExpressVPN Firmware on the router, and will try a re-install of the DD-WRT Firmware when I have sufficient time to go through that process again and try the suggestions.
Had the same issue with mine. Turned out to be a time/date problem after being flashed with the firmware. Manually going in and setting to the correct time/date fixed for me.
I have the WRT32X which should be the same hardware. The problem with mine was that WPA2 didn't worked on the 2.4Ghz radio. I had to choose WPA AES. For the 5Ghz, WPA2 AES worked. Also, I had to write different SSIDs to each one, or else it would not work. _________________ Linksys WRT32X, Linksys EA6500 v1, TP-Link TL-WR842ND

Interesting, and more variables into the equation.
I do have different SSIDs (RODEOGEORGE for 2.4 and RODEOGEORGE5 for 5.0)
I'm back on ExpressVPN Firmware, which is doing everything I need at this time. Mainly the ability to route my NVR though the WAN, as opposed to the VPN.

I have the issue that the WiFi isn't that strong. The wifi on the modem/router is better and it has no external aerials. Also the 5ghz channel drops out occasionally. But not sure if that's because of dlna issue.
I tried to use express VPN on my wrt3200acm (It was the reason I bought it) but there firmware doesn't support ntfs so I couldn't setup a NAS.
Is there a way to strengthen the WiFi signal? Apart from the obvious channel selection/interference ect?

Been pulling my hair out trying to figure out whey the 2.4 wifi was so slow. This fixed it. Time was off. I have no idea why that would make a difference but it worked for me so kudos to you.
When I enable the TKIP Algorithm (with or without CCMP) I cannot connect to either WIFI.
I had the same issue with my router (Linksys WRT3200ACM - DD-WRT v3.0-r44715). I using the same SSID for 2.4 and 5Ghz. I turned OFF the TKIP Algorithm and now it is working.
