Good day - I hope someone can help'

I am running OpenVPN (DD-WRT is 26947 - My VPN provider is ExpressVPN) on a Linksys e2500 router that is second in line to a Netgear R7000P connected LAN-WAN. Each is on a separate subnet and work great when it is running or if I have disabled the vpn manually. The vpn is randomly dropping the connection requiring me to disable-enable it to get back on line. It will occur within an hr or so or several hrs once up. With the vpn disabled the router connects fine.

ExpressVPN has been no help at all in figuring this out. I suspect it is something in the config or with them as I tried the vpn set up only on the Netgear R7000P and same thing happened. I know several people here where I live who use this router and config but with StrongVPN and have no issues.

Thoughts?? Thanks!

This does not fix your problem but could make it easier to deal with, courtesy @sploit:

The more simple solution is cron, under Administration tab, simply copy everything
within the hashtag #### to the cron section , then click save , then click apply.

####
# Fix VPN or Openvpn disconnection issue after several days.
0 0 * * * root stopservice openvpn; sleep 30; startservice openvpn #>/dev/null 2>&1
####

The time the job start is midnight or 12am.
"min , hrs , days , wks, mths."

Cheers

Disconnects can be caused.by time outs.
The Sollution IS not CRON
Cron doesnt detect when the VPN goes down and to fire it back up when it does.

egc gave the proper solution.
