Installing Entware wiki: https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installing_Entware

The issue is Installing Entware usually requires a USB drive or SD Card. There is very limited flash space.

TP-Link 841ND v7 can be modded to have a USB port: https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr841nd#hardware_mods

It will probably require a special DD-WRT build though. At which point, better to use OpenWRT.

Old is also your router.
If you are really interested in adding additional functions then make sure your basic hardware supports it.

In the past I could run it simply by downloading tcpdump binary and a library to /tmp.

Like this:
http://archive.openwrt.org/whiterussian/0.9/packages/libpcap_0.9.4-1_mipsel.ipk
http://archive.openwrt.org/whiterussian/0.9/packages/tcpdump_3.9.4-1_mipsel.ipk

but it isn't working anymore
