D-Link DIR-878 - Web Gui keeps prompting for password

Was prompted on startup to enter a new username and password, I generated a password to use, it let me in fine first time, but now every time I click on a tab, it prompts me for my username and password, but doesn't authenticate and eventually I get a 401 page. It responds quickly to tell me when I purposeful enter it wrong, but when I enter the username/password combination I generated, it polls for a few seconds, then says no...

Version: DD-WRT v3.0-r37305 std (10/10/1Cool.

I have tried Telnetting in, but obviously I need a password for that. I have tried the default username and password, no luck with that. Also a hard reset?
Perhaps I am missing something?

This may have nothing to do with your problem But,
There is an issue with Chrome and possibly other browsers with autofill enabled.

Also 37305 is FUBAR in many ways on many devices.
If you can get back in, update. See links in white below for Latest firmware.

You do know username is "root" for telnet/ssh?

When I initially set the password, the boxes were auto-filled, however, it was initially done over wireless via my iPhone...

I'm not sure how to, I tried a hard reset, that didn't reset the default DD-WRT, I can't telnet in. I'm not sure what else is left to try?

Yes, sorry, I wasn't very clear with that part. When I tried telnet'ing and SSH'ing, I used root and the password I originally set.
