I just upgraded my ddwrt build to the latest for my router, a trendnet 828DRU, to v3.0-r37305 std (10/10/18) from an older version (r27506 std).

I am noticing an extremely high number of transmission packet errors on the status->wireless page.

After 12 hours since last reboot, I have this:
Transmitted (TX) 57809 OK, 38934174 errors

Received looks fine only about 10 errors.

The error packets just constantly increment everytime the page autorefreshes.

I have the tx power set to auto but I tried lowering it all the way down to 40 mW to see if anything changed - appears not. The tx failure rate continues to march upward constantly.

I also tried bumping it up to 200 mW to see if it would make any change... it doesn't

I only have about 7 wireless clients connected... all but one are connected my 2.4G connection... and have excellent SNR (> 30). The only thing suspicious is I only have 1 client connected to my 5G radio (WL0) and it's signal is terrible... SNR of about 1 (noise at -92dB).

Wondering if you guys had any tips on troubleshooting or config changes to try and resolve the problem - if it is a problem (not a bug or something)???

Just a quick update... I have isolated the problem to my 2.4G radio by:
Disabling my 5G radios - no change in errors
Enabled 5G radios, disabled 2.4G radio - no more errors.

Still not sure how to diagnose/fix the issue with 2.4G radio... maybe the hardware is bad?

Try, set CTS to auto, dtim 2, use a channel that nobody recommends, and this startup script:
wl -i eth1 interference_override 2

The value could be 1,2 or 4. 1 is 'other' 2.4ghz appliances but not wifi. 2 is manual wifi. 4 is auto (which may or not be on). Replace 'eth1' above with the actual interface for your 2.4ghz radio. Try the ifconfig command and/or status pages to get a 'who is who' list.

If that doesn't do it, try 35531. Also considering returning to your previous version to see if performance makes a very quick recovery.

Alternatively, and since that is a high spec model, the 600megabit 2.4ghz might sound like a conversation between Greek and Japanese--It is doing a 'draft AC' on the 2.4ghz band. To prevent that, you could turn off TurboQAM, and then it will do 450N on the 2.4ghz band. I wouldn't suggest a standard policy of setting lower specs, but it is worth a try.

If there's no menu for that:
nvram show |grep turbo
nvram show |grep qam
Those commands should reveal the nvram setting for it.

Back to channels, I had another idea:

and
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pzolee.networkscanner
more info
https://pzoleeblogen.wordpress.com/

Trendnet and wikidevi says that it has 2 of 5ghz radios. You don't want channel-overlap there. The spec uses spans of four channels. Yours uses 2 spans of four channels. Valid channels may include 36 52 100 116 132 149. Those are the start or 'pilot' channels for the 4-channel blocks. That makes it simpler--use that list and Don't set both of the 5ghz radios on the same channel.
Also, elevation/location. 5ghz goes right off the antenna to a steeper angle down on its way to the ground. Solution is to put it up higher in the air, or shelf, preferably.

If it really is a hardware issue, try a fan or 'laptop cooler pad' and sit the router on it. That is probably more effective at preventing hardware problems before they happen.

And, I'd like to hear some news...

Thanks for the tips there... I was ahead of you and tried to reflash the previous versions firmware (I saved the exact version I used when I flashed awhile ago).

That didn't go well as it appears the router is bricked now. I'm running on my backup router now.

Trying to recover it with TFTP. Got some hope that I was able upload firmware via the recovery steps here but seems while it uploads the firmware, it doesn't apply (or something).

https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=51486

Even got desperate and try loading the original trendnet firmware (saved a copy of that too Smile ).

So this may be all a moot point unless I can recovery it.

Any recommendations for a new bad ass router that DDWRT runs on? Smile

Trying to recover it with TFTP....

To manually trigger TFTP readiness on most broadcom, hold down reset (or wps) while it starts up. You're after the slowly blinking power light, and then it probably wants to TFTP. It is timing sensitive, and you might have to google some 'unbrick' guides to get the tricky timing and tips.

And remember, Relax! When it is already bricked, there's nothing to lose by playing with it, so the pressure is off. Bricking isn't permanent, just inconvenient.

After you successfully send a firmware by TFTP, it will pretend to do absolutely nothing. Just leave it be for at least 6 minutes. There's a long timeout after TFTP and then some different blinking and install starts (after enough time has elapsed that you suspect it hasn't worked). The install period also takes about 6 minutes. Or a little more.

Yes! Here's a list: http://www.desipro.de/ddwrt/
That is the Kong firmware availability; so, that meets the qualifications of badass + dd-wrt + router. Smile

Tried to flash a few more different firmwares.... nothing. Waited for up to 30 minutes after a "success" TFTP of a firmware before power off/on.

Probably will have to resort to JTAG at this point. My suspicion is the NVRAM is messed up and can't be cleared.... but don't really know. After I "downgraded" the firmware I didn't change the "reset config after flashing" by mistake (too quick on the mouse).

I have very high TX errors and when watching the screen it is increasing.
I have scanned nearby channels and choose one which no one uses 9 and ACk is set to 50.

Received (RX)
100%
69612157 OK, 197 errors
Transmitted (TX)
100%
179132624 OK, 12065 errors

My router has been on for 12 days.

Can anyone assist?

Maybe take a look at the wifi settings sticky at the top of the forum....
