I've searched around a bit but I haven't been able to find a page with instructions for DD-WRT installation on a R7800. I found the below in a post. Does that look right? Does the line "Flash dd-wrt-webupgrade.bin with reset to defaults" mean to do a reset to defaults before or after upgrading to the .bin file?

- Flash factory-to-ddwrt.img
- Wait until it FULLY boots up
- admin, admin, admin
- Flash dd-wrt-webupgrade.bin with reset to defaults
- Wait until it FULLY boots up
- Power off router
- Wait 1 min
- Power it back on
- Wait until it FULLY boots up
- Now setup your things

Thanks

probably best to use Kong builds for first install

###

although AFAIK the 'factory-to-ddwrt.img' is ok
from --> ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/ choose build and then go to 'netgear-r7800'
after first install to dd-wrt you would use 'dd-wrt-webupgrade.bin' files

Flash the latest Kong Build (link above)
Reset to default and start configuring

You don't have to flash the bin file unless it's a later version.

What they mean is this. If you're going from stock Netgear firmware (1st time flash), you use the IMG ending filename.

Once you're running DD-WRT- Only use BIN ending filenames for upgrading/downgrading versions. This is true for either BS builds or Kong builds.

For the R7800 there is an additional developer named <KONG>.

He owns and manages a fleet of R7800's for his company (best I know from reading the forums) and so he is extremely proactive at tweaking/improving upon BrainSlayer's builds located in the Beta's download section.

You want to use a <Kong> build to assure the most pleasant and smooth experience on the R7800. He actively tweaks this baby and a few other select routers.

Thanks for the responses. I was able to successfully convert my R7800 to DD-WRT and upgrade it to the latest bin and it's working great! Thanks again!
