While tweaking some settings on my Netgear WNDR4500 (v1) running DD-WRT v3.0-r33215M giga (08/25/17) I essentially got locked up of the router. The webpage would come up:

401 Unauthorized
Authorization required. please note that the default username is "root" in all newer releases

whenever I clicked on a tab that required the username/PW. I eventually reset the router but still got the error.

I have a backup router which I swapped in... and it did the same exact thing. I fired up Internet Explorer (I use Google Chrome) and had no issue. The version of Chrome in question is 71.0.3578.80 (Official Build) (64-bit).

I don't think this is a router or DD-WRT related issue and is most likely Google Chrome related. I figured I'd give everyone a heads up in case you get the same error.

I checked for a Chrome update and the browser updated to :

71.0.3578.98 (Official Build) (64-bit)

But the problem still exists. BTW I did reboot the PC as well.

This may not apply at all since I am on Linux but I use Chromium instead of Google chrome. I have one windows pc with both. Mostly unused. I see no difference and never had any trouble at all.

Because of strange browser related things, now and also in the past, I use Internet Explorer to administer my routers Smile
